Salt Water Early Season Stripers - ME

Early striper fishing is fast, furious and the pockets of fish come and go with the tides. At times it feels like I'm always a day late or an hour too early. Everyone says. "oh yeah, you should have been here yesterday, or, the fish should be coming in any minute now." Where are the Stripers? That is the million dollar question. They could be in the rivers, the estuaries or the ocean. The choices are many and there is only so much time in the day. I have literally pounded the Southern Maine waters from Portland to Kennebunkport. Ferry Beach, Higgins Beach, Mousam River, Royal River, Kennebunkport Breakwater, Presumpscott River, Saco River etc... I met many flyfisherman and all of their stories were as dynamic as there dispositions. Some flyfisherman were at their wits end and tired of changing locations and flies in hopes of hooking into their first striper of 2003. Other flyfishermen were smiling from ear to ear and claiming 20-30 fish earlier in the day. I was fortunate enough to get one fish on a white deceiver. Check out the Southern Maine Striper Tour Video
