If your looking for great Salmon Flyfishing in Maine here is my rule of thumb. Go where the Moose are. Just drive North and as soon as you start seeing lots of moose that are bigger than your car, you will know that your in Salmon Territory. Water won't be tough to find. In fact, it almost seems like there is more water than land. Big lakes, little lakes, rivers, streams, ponds. More water than you could ever ask for. Cold water. This Salmon was put on a show like you read about. Can you guess what I got him on? Yup, you guessed it, Olive Wooly Bugger. I casted it out across the river and stripped it half way across. The fly reached a deeper channel in the middle so I stopped my retrieve. I let it sink a little and then started stripping very slowly. I saw the Silver dart out of the blackness. I set the hook and this fish was in the air in no time. One jump, two jumps and then he ran. In fact, he ran directly towards me. I reeled up all the slack and then he ran away from me. I thought he was going to break me off, but I let him take a ton of line and tire himself out. I fought this fish for a long time. He was full of life and never wanted to quit. That's why I like the cold water Salmon. They are truly, in my opinion, Maine's premiere fresh water fish. I would have never guessed that I would have gotten this fish where I did. It was some no name stream/river on the outscirts of some no name town way up North in Maine. But, no matter where your from, you gotta wonder. How many of those no name pieces of water are holding nice fish. So, sometimes its fun to do what I sometimes do. Get in your car, turn the key and

follow the Moose. If you don't have Moose in your state follow big beavers or something. Go where you have never been and fish the waters that you have never fished. You'll be surprised how humbling and rewarding it can be.
