 First Day On The Salt: Striped Bass On The Fly

I've been in Maine for about a year and finally made it striper fishing. Never fished saltwater before, so this was all new to me. I got a book and read it this winter but, today Jermey taught me more about gear, fish movement, casting and tidal influences than that book ever did. Despite a relatively slow day I managed to get my first striper. Not a big fish but awesome. I can see how this becomes addicting. I've got a lot more to learn but I'm looking forward to a
great summer of striper and blue fishing here in Maine!

Only The Beginning

Little do they know how much there is to know about catching these fish consistently and in large numbers. I learned, through the years, by flyfishing with some of the best salt water flyfishermen from Rhode Island to Nantucket to Maine. These are guys that always catch fish. They outfish everyone on the beach and it is not luck. They know where the fish are, how to fish for them and how to catch them. So, the information that I trasnfered to you is information that was and still is transfered to me. Unfortunately for me, I spent many of years casting the wrong line, using useless flies and fishing in the wrong water columns and spots. So I feel confident that I do know what works because I am absolutely certain about what does not work. I am sure you will return the favor and teach me what I need to do when fishing for those 10 pound Bull Trout in Montana. |
