So, like most people out there I have to work for a living and am stuck in an office during the week. Unlike most people however, my office overlooks a tidal river that just happens to be in the midst of an alewife/herring run. Lucky for me that if you find the alewives and herring this time of year, you will also find stripers. Lots and lots of stripers. This particular river has a lot of mud flats on the sides where the stripers love to chase the bait at high tide, cornering them against the grass banks and causing spectacular explosions that would make any avid angler weak in the knees with excitement. This is what I witnessed from my office window at high tide today. It was around lunch time, the sky was overcast and foggy, I had an hour to kill and my 9wt was in the truck waiting for me. I tied on a 2/0 grocery fly that was blue/pink on top and white on the bottom and headed to the launch dock to try my luck. First cast and wham I had a hook up. Not a real big fish but it felt good to have him on the line. I released that one, cast out again and after two quick strips I was

hooked up again. This continued for the next half hour and then the school moved beyond my reach. I walked back up the bank and ate my lunch while watching to see if the school would return but they had moved out with the tide. The best part was that I was the only guy on the river. No boats, no tourists, nobody.
