The ocean was a little rough this weekend. My wife took this shot of me as a wave was crashing on me. She could have told me it was rolling in, but she didn't. I probably wouldn't have moved anyway, I was casting to Bonito/Albies and boy did I want to catch one. So, I am down in Rhode Island this past weekend fishing my regular spots. The bluefish were everywhere. Litterally everywhere. The bait was so thick you could walk on it. Soon enough, it will be like that here in Maine, and the peanut bunker will storm the shores and the Stipers and Blues will be feasting on them. Can't wait for that. Should be happening any day now. However, there is one thing that we don't get up here. Bonito and Albacore. Let me tell you, I have found a new addiction. Just when I thought, the fall was all about Steelheading. Well, it is. But, from

now on its also gonna be about Bonito and Albacore from the shore with the fly. I am going to Marthas Vineyard with my Saltwater Bud's in Mid September. They are already addicts and have been going annually for the last 5 years. Morning till night crusining the Vineyard beaches for the Albies. So anyway, I am down fishing for bluefish on a local Rhode Island Breachway and I run across Dan. He says, the Albies and Bonito are in and he tells me where to go. So, I go there, and he wasn't kidding. I fished for bluefish for a bit. I couldn't resist. They were busting up and down the jettie. But, then made my way up the jettie and then I saw them cruising and crashing on the surface. These fish were sweet and I wanted one so bad, but luck was not on my side this time around. I did land a big bluefish and that was fun, but now I am keyed in on Tuna Species. Joe-M (as seen in the pic) fishes for Bonito and Blackfin Tuna down in Florida. He got this one last spring off Naples. They chase the Shrimp boats around and hook into some nice fish on the fly. However, that is off shore in a boat and this On Shore On Feet. I think it would be so cool to get these from the shore. Stay tuned, because I am determined to get one before seasons end. They run thick from now through October, so I will be making a few runs to Rhode Island before and after our Marthas Vineyard Albacore Trip on Sept 18th. Then to top it off, I get a call from Mike when I get back to Maine. He is on the boat and the Bluefin Tuna are basically on the shorelines. He landed a 75 pound Bluefin last weekend and was casting to Bluefins all day today. I am going out with them next weekend and can't wait for that. Big Bluefish and Striped Bass are one thing. Bonito, Albies and Tarpon are another thing, but Bluefin Tuna are a whole nother ball game. Mike swears that I won't be able to land a Bluefin on a flyrod. Come On, gotta be doeable. As long as its a small one (200 pounds or less). I think a 600 pounder might be difficult. Stay tuned for next weeks Bluefin Tuna Trip Video. Gonna be a great fall for flyfishing. Albies on The Vineyard and Rhode Island, Big Stripers, Bluefish and Bluefin Tuna in Maine and Big Steelheads and Browns on the Salmon River and other Great Lake Tributaries.

So fall is in the air. Are the trees already show signs of coloring? Down here I think I notice a slight change in the outdoors. Although the temperatures still get high the mornings get cooler. We got 7 weeks before trout season ends.
