Shark Video Hi-Speed Only

Different spin for me!! Most people who know me or fish with me know I’m a fly or die fisherman. I went down to Florida to check my place after the third storm passed. Fishing under the dock lights was awesome, the water dirty and choppy the Snook and Jack were easily fooled with a fly. This went on for a few nights when my neighbor Bob comes out and starts to tell me about Grouper fishing 50 miles off shore; big fish, live bait, chum etc. What kind of flies do I bring? NONE. I’m starting to loose interest… We agree I will bring my rods and cast to King fish on the way out. Bob ,John and I head off shore. We stop on Kings busting small

pink color bait 1st cast bam I hooked up… Did you know King Fish have teeth like a Blue fish crossed with a Barracuda? Yes you need steel leader!! I had none. Ok we head out to the Grouper hole throw this corn meal type chum out and the bait swarms around the boat. I took some small crazy charlies tied them to a spinning rod with a 1 oz. weight and jigged for bait. This was cool, I hooked 20 or so baits is 5 minutes. Now we have bait you take the bait place it on a large 1/O circle hook drop it to the bottom and wait. John hooks up 1st drop a something Grouper good fight etc. This went on for a wile drop a line fish etc.. This is kind of fun but lacks the action of fly casting. Suddenly John’s rod is bent hard almost in half, he can’t hold on Bob runs over to help (Bobs $2000.00 rod) I start to video the action. (See video) The boys bring up this 250+ Sand Shark I think. This thing was huge and pulled like there was no tomorrow. Then it was my turn I hooked one of these monsters. We got 3 in total and 1 “keeper Grouper” (we let go). My first trip bottom fishing in a long time different but fun… See ya on the ocean this winter Joe-m

Wow, the big pull, Joe! We'll have to get together for some fishing down in Naples this winter. I'm packing this weekend, leaving Oct. 26.

That looks, sounds, almost feels familiar Joe, off shore of Naples must have a pretty big shark population....or so it seams.

Here's my story:
