Fly Fishing Dog Video Hi Speed Only

It seems fitting that my Dog's name is Juneau. I named him after one of my favorite places in the world, Juneau Alaska. I spent 3 months living in Juneau, and there was something about the energy of the island that captivated me. Maybe it was the huge mountain in the middle of town, glaciers, the Salmon, the rivers, its Native American heritage, it luschious rain forests or just the sense of completeness I felt while exploring the rivers and forests. Whatever the case, my dog Juneau certainly has the soul of Juneau Alaska. He has been tromping through rivers with me since he was just a few months old. I was amazed, immediately, by Juneau's ability to walk quietly through the water with me and stand on a rock with me for hours at a time. Of course, we have had our moments but all in all he is the best fly fishing dog I could have ever asked for. He loves it when I invite him to go fly fishing and hates it when I don't. So, yesterday I invited Juneau to come up north with me to Maine's Kennebec River. Of course, he stood with his nose basically pressed up against the windshield for the entire drive. When we got to the river he ran around for a bit and I let him get any pent up energy out of system. He then calmed down and as soon as we reached the river edge, Juneau stood quietly next to me at full attention. He gets worked up a bit and starts to shake when he sees rising trout and he gets very anxious if too much time goes by between fish. Juneau loves to feel as though he has some sort of responsibility to carry out when we are fly fishing. I don't think he or I have figured out exactly what it is, but you should see how well he stares at the water and the

fish. So, maybe he doesn't really have a roll but I would never let him know that. As far as he is concerned, his presence is absolutely critical to a succesful day of fly fishing. Speaking of that, we had a great day. Interestingly enough, we caught most of our Salmon on dry flies. I was not expecting that, considering it is mid October. The Salmon were sipping the tiny natural BWO's off the surface in a subtle fashion. In fact, it took me some time to even see the rises. The flies were so small, the Salmon barely left an impression on the water after sneaking a bug. I hooked and landed several nice sized Salmon and a Brook Trout. Juneau had a blast watching the Salmon leap out of the water. He was so well behaved all day and I really enjoyed my time with him. Since the birth of my son, Juneau has kind of taken a back seat. Yesterday he was in the front seat, literally. Thanks Juneau, for a great day on the water and for all your help finding, tricking and catching those fish. Couldn't have done it without you.

Oh yeah - It was fun doing this video for several reasons. I wrote the song about 5 years ago - and recently revisited it and recorded it with Joey. Joey did a great job soloing over it - thanks Joey. Anyway, the name of the song is "Solitary Man" and the lyrical content certainly revolves around fly fishing in Maine. What makes this video kinda cool to me is the fact that I took footage and tied it into the song. So, if you listen - you will see and hear how the images correspond to the lyrics. It was fun to do - because it added another lelement of creativity into the mix. There are certainly many dynamic creativities involved and that's what makes it fun. music writing - lyric writing - music playing - joey's soloing - music recording - fly fishing - video and photography and then the short film making. man its crazy to think what is possible in todays digital world and wild to bring it all together in a little 3 minute package. hope you enjoy it - as much as i enjoyed putting all of the elements together.

There were some serioiusly cool camera angles in that clip. Love the shot of Juneau in the side view with his lips flapping in the breeze. He seems very diciplined when your fishing. Great video!

"Man's best Friend" says it all, but you managed to say it with fly fishing, which makes it even better! Our dog has also gone from being an "only child" to have to share the attention, space, etc...still, she seems to know what it's all about. There is a quote that goes something like "I hope to be the person my dog thinks I am." Thanks for the read and the vid--I agree Juneau is awesome - both the town and your dog!

Mike

Yeah Man! I just found this little website. Pretty cool indeed. Jeremy I gotta tell ya, what you say about SE Alaska is true. I'm just south of Juneau, in Petersburg, for the summer. What a place. Yesterday I went for a little explore in Big creek and wound up having a phenomenal 5 weight dolly varden day. They were everywhere! Taking dry flies from 18 Royal Wulf to big ol' olive wooly buggers. To think I went up in hopes of a few little cutthroat and had one of the best fishing days I can remember.
I'm commenting on your post here because you make me miss Maine. I grew up in Kittery and migrated to Straton and then The Forks. The best days fishing of my life were in the Kennebec and Dead. Not to mention the hundreds of little honey holes along the Carrabassett and all the little streams and creeks between. October is in the air here and I want to come home to fish! Since I can't you'll have to do it for me. Catch 'em up and keep shootin those vids. Thanks for the good post.
