Fresh Water Brown Trout Today Steelhead Tomorrow: Salmon River

So today started out with Jeremy waking me up and yelling “get up you swab, UP!” I was “guaranteed” big steel instantly, and boy did I want it. Pat, Jeremy and I were on the way to the Salmon River instantly. I was really looking forward to at least hooking a big steelhead. We are all walking the trail to the river and I noticed Jeremy was ahead of us. I wondered why he was walking so fast. We reached the river bed and walked upstream as fast as we could. Just as we reached our destination, two people come out of the woods and take our spot. Peachy. We decided that downstream and across might be just as good. The sun is just coming up now and I am drifting the pink egg I tied along the seam. Jeremy is way upstream from us and I decided to head up to the riffles. I waded out a bit, and saw the slick I wanted to fish. My fly is slowly drifting down, now it’s below me. I watch my indicators sink. I bring my rod to the air, bottom again. I almost begin to pull it off when my line twitched. I yelled, “fish on” and after a few minutes I had a Salmon River Brown tTout under my wading belt. Nice! Now I’m pretty happy! We all walked downstream and we are soon fishing a beautiful run. Pat is upstream from me and then I hear “there he is jeremy!” Pat hooked a big steelhead, and as soon as it took his fly, it spit the hook. Jeremy and I make our way to another river and he is teaching me how to get the drift. I broke my rig off on a rock and Jeremy couldn’t resist throwing his fly in there while I was re-rigging. Of course, Jeremy catches the beautiful, leviathan, monster, chrome steelhead I had dreamed about catching. It was a good day on the Salmon River. I can only

hope, that tomorrow, I lock horns with a steelhead and if it is chrome, well, that would be good too.

"Get up you Swab, Get Up"
Fine way to start the day.

It would be fine with me also if I had fish like that waiting for me.

Great job guys - keep on hooking up and keep on posting.

Fisherboy-Sounds like Jeremy poached your drift. I think you can call the warden for something like that. Given that is a sweet chromer I think he should be fined big time. Keep with it, you'll hook into some steel. Hopefully you already have!
Good luck and keep the posts coming.
Keith
