Fresh Water Fly Fishing: The End Of An Era

Today was the end of an error. In early June, 1998 a relationship started which would keep me company through 120 consecutive guiding trips that year. We fished through rain, sleet, snow, wind and sweatfilled adventures.

We stood together through good and poor fly fishing. Since then, we have fished in five states, been on countless rivers, remote ponds, and seen more fly fishing adventures than many anglers enjoy in a lifetime.

Today I recieved the phone call from my wife that ended this era. I would have no more adventures with my

constant companion, my fly fishing cap. My dog, who bears the name of the location I recieved my trusty hat, has eaten 1/4 of it. Must have tasted good, it's never been washed.

Shaq, really sorry to hear that. Most of us can relate to your situation. There is nothing easy about it.

A trusty lid is a special thing. Wearing it gets one in the proper frame of mind for the next adventure. It's passing will need to be mourned properly. You will have to fish for a period of time with no hat before it is time to don a new one!!! Just kidding. Now you get to break in a new one and start a new era.

Sorry about the "trick" read, sometimes I am not as clever as I think I am.

Yes, my hat is gone. I almost started to write something clever about the bears in alaska or some such thing but truth is often better than fiction. Hope I didn't mislead any of you.

Gotta go, Bristol (the dog) is barking out back at something on the other side of the fence. Hope there isn't a white stripe on the back of that black cat...

So sorry !
I had the same experience with my labrador puppy eight years ago; but to say the truth: Now my lab shares my adventures at the shore and the river bank and it`s so much fun to fish together with my dog!!! And thereīs a hell of capīs at my board but only one yello friend in my heart.

All the best and always tight lines!

By the way: Wouldn`t it be nice to have a cap with the fliesandfins logo? Any idea?
