It is the first day of half term. What better way to start it off than go for a fish on my local trout lakes! I got up when I should of been fishing. So, I up into some clothes, had a cuppa and went down to the lakes. It was a perfect English day. Cold (ish), over cast and not a breath of wind. I tackled up and opened my fly box. I picked out a fly that had caught a lot of fish earlier in the year and cast off. I was half asleep because I had only been awake for about 25 minutes. Then, Bang! The fish hit the fly like a train! After that it just hugged the bottom of the lake. I thought it was going to get in the weed and get off but it thankfuly did not! It just went in the under cuts of the banks and I could not get my net to it . But, after a bit of a struggle I got it in the net and I thouht it looked like a good fish. Then I weighed it! 2 whole oz. over my personal best! That is a

great start to the half term! First day, first cast and my best Trout.

fishing_chris,

great work! that is a nice rainbow trout! you mention that you fish the lakes. do you choose to fish the lakes over the rivers? or, are the lakes a more common and more prefered place to fly fish in your area? what other types of trout/salmon species might you encounter in the regions of england that you fish? welcome to flies and fins. seems that as of late there are many members joining from europe (france, holland, england, germany etc...) ... great to see .... after all ... from a fly fishing perspective .. the only thing that seperates the USA and Europe is the big pond (atlantic ocean) .. and we share that water already...

Nice work fishing_chris. I'm sure he gave you quite a battle. Nice story too. I wish the grass here was still that green.

That's a nice fish and the lake does look good also.
My fish envy is coming around again, I only managed rainbows in the 25cm range this year.
Are you allowed to fish all year in your resorvoir (no closed season) ?
