Salt Water Everglades Sight Fishing Trophy Snook: Two Great Days

See Video On Flies And Fins South

"I'm amazed how Kevin finds his way through the maze of Mangrove islands to take us 40 miles. How does he not get lost?" Dave answers as he drives us south to Chocoloskee, "Dude. Can you find your way to the bathroom in the dark? It's that easy for Kevin." Soon we were masked and covered with warm outerwear and zooming in Capt. Kevin Mihailoff's skiff over the shallow waters, deep in the bowels of Everglades National Park. Our goal was to find trophy sized Snook, sight cast to them with our flies and hopefully land a few giants. We are lucky to be able to fish with Kevin, who is possibly the best in the world at what he does. He knows countless locations where Snook feed, travel, or lay up, what effects the wind and tides have on the fish, how and what to present big Snook under every condition of water and weather. He's the perfect fit for advanced anglers. His concentration while poling a shallow cove is intense. Kevin's ferocious persuit mode soon transformed our usual casual demeanor. Because of Kevin's intensity, we soon become fly anglers with a like-minded lazer concentration, poised and ready to deliver our flies "on the nose" of each Snook. We become a six-eyed team, focused on silence; seeing, poling, delivering, untangling, retying, rapidly unhooking smaller Snook to get the shot at the laviathan. I know this is a good team. This is the way guided fishing should be. Having a righty and lefty caster in the boat enabled Kevin to maximize wind and tide condition adjustments while polinging each cove and shoreline. Never idle, Kevin moved us to

other locations in persuit of moving Snook. We had chances at fish at each spot. I learned how to cure some casting faults. We landed many large Snook making us feel like champs and had chances at many more who made us feel like chumps. Sight-fishing dream trip.

marsh .. nice snook ... i have caught many snook and a few snook that i considered to be "nice snook" .. ... but never a snook that size .... i got a question ... allot of the snook that i have caught down in the everglades have a much darker tint to them ... i noticed this fish and all of the fish in the video are much whiter .. is that because they are just coming in from the oceans????? anyway, great fish .. well earned .. well done.
