 Snook, Bluefish And Crazy Charlies

Snook are very similiar to trout. Last night I showed up to my favorite light on the canal and there they were. Laying there in the current, I could see 3 good size snook. I roll casted my crazy charlie into the darker section of the water and literally nymphed it through the current. Then, like a lightning bolt, one of the snook darted for my fly. He had it. Yup, I was in heaven. My line was screaming out and I was not letting this fish snap me off. I let him take some line and boy was I surprised, this fish was full of life and he was just screaming through the water. I eased him up to the side of the coral and landed him. One quick snapshop and he was back amongst his comrads. Though I have only been fishing for these wiley little buggers for a couple of nights, I have learned a little about their nature. They will attack anything that comes into their personal space and will chase it down, but they are clever and they can easily spot a flaw in their prey. You get a few casts to these fish, if that, and if they don't take it - you gotta give that spot a rest and let the fish settle. 10 minutes or so and
you get another go at 'em. Strange enough, during my snooking efforts, I had a few instances when I saw large schools of silver fish darting frantically at my fly. I thought they were Jacks, because when one of them took my fly he felt like a ton of bricks. Much to my surprise, I landed the fish and it was a decent size blue fish. What a blast this has been. I won't even get into our flyfishing adventure down Alligator Alley, I will leave that wild story for Joe.
