Flew from Portland at 19 degrees to fort myers florida to a temperature of 62. Called Jeremy in Naples, got directions and within an hour I was landing my first fish. We headed out to the everglades. Fish and alligators rising everywhere. Snook, baby tarpon, sea trout… all the usual suspects were there in abound. After the sun fell into the gulf of Mexico, Jeremy decided to show me where there were some good fish. Keep in mind, I was exhausted from the arduous flight, the hordes of people and the constant lines at every terminal. So, I really just wanted to get some shut eye; but Jeremy wouldn’t let me. I was glad I went. We arrived at a

bright light that shined into the aqua colored water. We stayed back from the light and watched as a display of small to huge fish competed for the food coming through the current. I rigged up flyrod with 16 lb straight fluorocarbon and tied on a Crazy Charlie. I made my first cast, stripped 3 or 4 times and BANG, I had a beautiful bluefish taking line off my vortex reel. The fish I sought to catch in Maine last summer and evaded me, I ended up catching in Naples Florida. It was a great feeling to be catching fish the first day and feel the bend in the rod and the pull of the fish. I would love to tell you more, but there are some huge fins waiting for us in the everglades.
