Yucatan Adventure Video

I put this short film together for the Drake Magazine's 5 minutes of fly fishing competition. It was chosen as one of the top 10 entries from around the nation and walked away with the best humor category. My approach to filming, editing and ultimately fly fishing is rather candid and it comes across in this film. I work in the destination fly fishing industry and from time to time exploratory missions are in order. I am the Yucatan program manager for Yellow Dog fly fishing out of Bozeman, MT and it is valuable for me to have my finger on the pulse of the industry. I needed a buddy and I asked one of my mates down in Texas who could stretch a line and wouldn't mind splitting some costs with me. For this trip I fished right in the Cancun area for snook, tarpon and permit. There is a shark segment with Captain Rodman Hunter. We cast several times but couldn't get that bruiser to eat. Then we moved on to Isla Holbox in search of a triple digit tarpon. I only had one day to fish and I really went over for the great food and Italian waitresses. From there we drove 5 hours to Campeche for some really hot baby tarpon action. The city of Campeche was really cool and has a rich history. The baby tarpon fishing was non-stop action in several different styles of fishing. After a 3 night stay in Campeche We headed across the peninsula and south to Xcalak to fish the vast expanses of Chetumal Bay while staying at Costa de Cocos Lodge. We rounded out

our 1300 mile trip visiting dear friends and fishing the familiar waters of ascension bay. 14 nights and 13 days made for some great stories and some amazing fly fishing.

I bet there are a few guys out there that want your job. Nice work with the camera and the long rod. Sounds like the perfect trip in my opinion, but were you able to get any permit? It looked like there was a quick shot of the back of one, but I couldnt tell if it was a jack.

Cool Trip. And pro video. Thanks. The variety of guided experiences all melded with pro editing...hard to see it all in such a short clip. Great music and I liked the credit scrolls.
