Re: Alaska: Six Magical Summers by jeremy on October 17, 2007 http://www.fliesandfins.com | Wrh -- amazing stuff ... i too was fortunate to spend some time in alaska ... not six summers, just one summer .. but it was a summer i will never forget and definately "magical" ... i was up there for 4 months or so with nothing to my name but a tent and my mountain bike ... i rode sometimes 50-60 miles a day on and off road .. and saw some of the most beautiful sights a man could see ... i did fish alot, but not "sport" fishing .. i worked on salmon boats commercial fishing in juneau, ketchikan, wrangell, st. petersburg, sitka .. etc... spent most of my time in south eastern alaska ... because the fishing regulations only allowed us to fish 2 or 3 days out of a 7 day week .. i got plenty of time to do my own fishing and exploring and traveling ... it was definately a summer i will never ever forget ... i can only imagine how close of a connection you could have with alaska after spending 6 times the amount of time i did ... thanks for sharing, enjoyed seeing alaska through your eyes and experiences and remembering some of my own ...
isn't there a huge "issue" going on right now in bristol bay .. that could potentially taint the pristine nature of the environment and delicate eco system????? i know that economny is important up there (because there is none .. other than fishing) .. but at the same time ... money will come and go ... bristol bay and all of alaska is truly one of the "last frontiers" .. if we ruin it for the sake of money and gold or whatever they are mining ... that would be unfortunate ... in my opinion a place like alaska has a value that surpasses anything else .. especially in terms of a long term investment .. because there is only 1 PURE alaska ... preserve it ... alaska (in it's purest form, untainted by US) is the true DIAMOND.... |

Re: Alaska: Six Magical Summers by greg on October 17, 2007 http://www.fliesandfins.com | | The diversity of species of fish in this slide show is a great testament to the fishing experience in Alaska and when you add in the other animals in the wild plus the scenery the slide show becomes art in it's purest form. I genuinley appreciate members like yourself that can take the time to show the rest of us the your experiences. I love to see and fish these places if only vicariously. Thanks for your informative article and pictures that allow us a peak at your Summer. |

Re: Alaska: Six Magical Summers by waterwhippa on October 17, 2007 | | Good stuff, that looks like some of the most pristine wilderness left on the planet. Lets hope that it stays that way and the pebble mine doesn't destroy the Sockeye. Glad you were able to drink that in for as many years as you did. |
