I must say, I was a it was a little unsettling to head out of South Lake Tahoe and into the remote Big Country sections of Nevada. The huge jagged peaks towered overhead and it seemed like I was on a road to nowhere. Up and down huge mountain passes. No gas stations. Nothing but valleys and peaks as far as the eyes could see. Then I found it. A tiny little river called the East Walker River. It was absolutely beautiful. It ran through a quite valley meadow and was surrounded by huge snow capped mountains. I was so excited to fish. I parked the car, stepped out into the sunny 60 degree weather and I could not put my waders on fast enough. Within minutes I was casting my line. Second cast, wham! A big hit on an olive wooly bugger. Yup, anyone who knows me, knows how much I love wooly buggers. So, I knew there were fish. I worked my way upstream and fished the deeper holes. I caught a nice brown trout and couple colorful rainbows on a black wooly bugger. I looked upstream and saw a slow stretch of water. I could see trout feeding and I noticed that a fair amount of BWO’s were coming off the water. So I tied on a parachute adams, laid out a long cast upstream and WHAM! A huge brown took the fly, but then spit it out. He was big! I could not tell if it was a brown or rainbow, but who cares. I caught a few more smaller fish on top, but my mind was still focused on the big one. I ran into...

2 other flyfisherman and watched one of them land a sweet 21-22 inch brown. He tricked his fish with a midge. I fished back down to my car, but things started to die off at around 4pm, so I decided to call it a day. The Sierras are phenomenal. Today was a day that I will remember forever. Actually, it was so good, I might go again tomorrow. In fact, I will. That big fish will be in my dreams tonight and hopefully on my line tomorrow.

Just found this post. The East Walker is amazing! It is loaded with browns and bows in the 20" range, and puts out fish in the 30" range every season. Glad you got to see what we have to offer in this area. The East Walker is about as good as it gets. And if you like to streamer fish then this is your place!! Glad you had good day!
