Maine Fly Fishing Watch Video: Maine Fly Fishing

Maine is a fly fishing paradise. With over 30,000 miles of rivers and streams, 6000 lakes and ponds, and over 5500 miles of coastline the opportunities available for all fisherman are endless. What about species to fish for? Well...within one fishing season it would be possible to catch Native Brook Trout, Landlocked Salmon, giant Bluefin Tuna, Pike, Striped Bass, Wild Rainbow Trout, Largemouth Bass, Muskie, the rare and elusive Blueback Trout, Smallmouth Bass, Bluefish, Bluegill, Brown Trout, and Sharks. Just to name a few. I like the fact that in a single day you can catch Striped Bass on beautiful saltwater sand flats all morning, and fish an evening hatch for native Brook Trout and Landlocked Salmon on a river or pond in the Great North Woods. I've even enjoyed grilled Bluefin Tuna steaks over a campfire after an evening of salmon fishing on the West Branch of the Penobscot Riverver, from a fellow angler that caught the Tuna that morning. This must be why Maine promotes itself as "The way life should be". And this is what I love about fly fishing in Maine. I love driving the endless network of dusty roads, dodging overloaded logging trucks making their way to the Mill, as I make my way to a glass calm trout pond in hopes of seeing the Hex hatch materialize. Or

firing a cast into a pod of Stripers in the fall as they herd and drive bait along the rocky shoreline just knowing that I'll hook up. Being in the midst of a blizzard like caddis hatch on the West Branch of the Penobscot when it seems almost impossible that a fish will find you fly amidst the naturals til you feel that tug. Chugging a deer hair popper along a log in crystal clear water and seeing a smallmouth bass come up and just destroy it. Stopping at virtually any corner store in Maine and buying pizza buy the slice and a single cold beer on a really hot day. Wanting to catch Blue Fin Tuna, but looking back and realizing that seeing whales, seals, and hundreds of dolphins was pretty epic as well. Fishing in the company of friends, new and old and always learning something new, while laughing and sharing the experience. Falling asleep next to a crackling fire in my camp chair after a long day on the water, and waking up with the sun. Running rapids just to get to that deep dark pool that I know has some monster salmon in it. Having a wild Rainbow trout sip a tiny dry fly and take me into the backing. Hooking my first landlocked Salmon of the year at ice out which reminds me .. Spring, in Maine, is here. Time to fish.

Boz,

Awesome fish tale man! And, spectacular video! It's true - with so much fresh and saltwater .. Maine offers fly fisherman a lifetime of fly fishing opportunities and adventures! I love Maine for the same reasons you mention. There are not many places in the world where I can go a couple miles east of my house and fly fish for Bluefin Tuna and then go a few miles west of my house and fly fish for wild Salmon or Brook Trout .. It is truly an amazing state and I feel lucky to live here. I love to travel and visit other fisheries and places and cultures around the world .. but, I always love to come home to Maine. Looking forward to another epic Maine fly fishing season .. every year they seem to get better and better and offer new adventures with the same crew and new people too! Again, awesome work on the fish tale and video!

Yeah Maine! Spent years delivering boats up to southwest harbor, christmas cove, Ilse of shoals, cranberry island, acadia National Park. Kayaking Magic hole on the Kenebec. Hopefully I will learn to fish with you boys in that beautiful state as well.

Boz amazing content. Just killer. You really captured Maine fly fishing. I loved all of it. I could smell the ocean and feel the mosquito bites from the north. Hopefully I get to experience them first hand (again) this summer. great job.

I first fished Maine back in 2004. I can say without a doubt it is my first choice when I start thinking about the fishing trip I should plan next. You nailed it bro, the possibilities in Maine are limitless. Right now I'm thinking of all the possibilities this season brings. The tough part is picking which trip to roll with.

Some awesome axe work in the song as well. Next time we meet up you'll have to play that one.

Loved it !! I live in central Maine and I have to agree that your video captured it all. when it comes to what you can catch in Maine it is truly amazing. There is more variety here than a person can even begin to take advantage of in a lifetime. I love the kennebec drainage, live a five minute drive from the river and and have been tying flies all winter in anticipation of the good things to come. The oppurtunities in this state are endless and your video provides a wonderful snapshot into the variety that could keep a fly angler busy for a lifetime!

Boz, great fish tale and an even better video! i loved the shot at the end with the "peepers" and can't wait till i can hear that sweet sweet sound from out my window again....just another attribute that makes this state a truly awsome place to live and fish. Your fish tale says it perfectly, there is no where like maine. Nothing like warm nights at the campfire with friends and great fishing. i can't wait! spring is here!
