Winter blues, cabin fever, no fishable water (by Law) all this adds up to” max the credit cards” and head to the Bahamas! Hop a plane to Fort Lauderdale pick up Bahama Air to Nassau spend a day or two visit the casino fish the flats on the lee side of island. A lot of the land is private so check. Now you are acclimated to the weather it’s time to head to Andros Island a short flight from Nassau. Andros is world class bone fishing. You can walk the flats ( plenty of action) or hire a local guide (no problem) I prefer to hire a guide first and pick his brain for hard bottom flats. The equipment to bring is an 8 or 9 wt ( I bring both) floating line and independent line.8 to 10 lb flouro carbon leader. Flies ~ Small crazy charlies ( pink and clear), micro minnows, Lg shrimp pattern , and a few crab patterns. My first day I was fishing with my long time friend Ducky. I met him on a trip here in the 80’s and we have exchanged fishing stories for some 20 years. He has a nice flats boat and tons of local knowledge. Suns just high enough 7:00 am we spot out first school of bones. Rusty from the winter, I lay out a cast and

splash the water. An explosion of fish going anywhere but towards my fly. @#$% ! With in 10 minutes we are on another school. This time I put the crazy charlie 3’ in front of the working school. Boom !! The line flew off the deck and was on the reel is a split second. This was like hooking a jet at take off. 10 minutes of fast polling and I landed the fish 8 lb bone fish!! I spent a week in Andros with my friend fishing every day. Walking, polling, night fishing, and raising a little hell. Of all the places I’ve been Andros will always be my favorite. Remember to ask for Ducky at the dock. He is by far the best LOCAL guide in the area. Sorry he has no phone just ask at the town dock. Bone fishing is the best cure for the winter blues. See ya on the flats Joe-m

The only thing that makes me more jealous than seeing a picture like that is knowing that your going to florida on Tuesday and you'll be fishing for snook, jacks, tarpon, etc... while I am still here in the frozen tundra of Maine.

You are certainly an accomplished fisherman and I to am jealous of that fish, all I have is a story about the one that got away this year and the story from the previous year is wearing thin now.

Hi Joe

Where do you fish on Andros on Your own? I have had great fishing in the Fresh Creek area. You can rent your boats at Hanks Place and explore Fresh Creek and Summerset key.
