Here is a link regarding proposed changes in creel limits for brown trout, rainbow trout, coho salmon, chinook salmon, and pink salmon on Lake Ontario. These regulations would limit Steelhead possession to one per person, per day. These regulations have gained momentum in light of recent studies that show a steady decline in the numbers of Steelhead smolts stocked vs. the number that return each year. Here is one of the quotes and the link.
If we extrapolate these averages across the entire south shore of New York the numbers indicate that we may see only about 32,000, of the more than 650,000 steelhead smolts stocked annually, return to "any" trib in the following years. In the past we may have seen that many return just to the Salmon River alone! For reference, the decline has been documented since the late 1990's

There is also a contact number at the bottom if you would like to contact the DEC regarding these changes. Anyone have an opinion on this subject? Has anyone notice a decline in the numbers of fish the catch in Lake Ontario's tribs?
