My First rod was a Fenwick Eagle Gt.-8 1/2ft-5 weight.
My favorite rod is my R.L. Winston Vapor 9' 4 weight 5 piece or
My TFO Professional Series 4 piece 6 weight
My first reel was a Redington-Red Fly
Again i have a tie in my two favorite reels- my Ross Evolution 2 and my Lamson Velocity V3
What are your first and favorites? |

The first rod I had came from a dark corner of my friends Grandfather's garage. I have no idea what kind it was, but it was made out of fiberglass and weighed a ton.
I don't really have a favorite rod. I like them all equally |

my parents got me my first setup and it was orvis -- can't remember the name of the rod - but i think it was a clearwater or something...
however, the reel was a battenkill ... no frills (large argbor/shiny silver/crazy drag system/titanium this or built by a rocket scientist that...) -- that reel - i still have -- and it was one of the best trout reels i have owned to date ... still can't believe, after all it has been through .. it functions the way it does .. granted .. its all beat up with battle wounds and i had to switch out the line guard because the line actually wore a groove in the metal from so much use ... but it still works great ... and, to me, it feels like an old baseball glove and it would be hard for somehting "new" to replace that feeling.
whip - i think you have that same reel and continue to fish with it all the time right? |

| Yeah, the original Battenkill. It must be at least 15 years old, the drag still works the same as the day I got it. I too wore through the line gaurd, however, I have been having a hard time trying to get that replacement part. |

My first fly rod was a fenwick I got at a yard sale as a kid. I have no idea of the line weight or length as it is long gone.
My favorite rod is a tough question. When I guided in Ak I had an Orvis 9' 6 wt western series that was my go to rod and I loved it. For dry fly fishing I have an old T&T 8'5 wt extra special dry that is a dream to cast. Presently my favorite all around rod is a 9'5wt Orvis T3.
My favorite reel is very special, as the river gods provided it to me on the first day that I guided in Ak. A Bogden trout reel in case found on the bottom of the river. I still have it and use it. |

| First fly rod was a real old Heddon bamboo that was handed down to me by my great uncles. Favorites are tough to pick but my Vince Cummings 8 1/2 foot 2/3 weight is the rod I love to fish with when conditions allow. For reels I'll always be a fan of the old click and pawl Orvis CFO. But I have to admit the new Lamson Litespeed is a killer reel as well. That one will get all the bigger fish action. |

My first flyrod was an old fiberglass heddon clunker that my Dad got me when I was 15 or so. The reel was a cast metal-heavy-as-all-getout heddon. I wore that sucker out in two or three seasons.
I remember being envious of my friend who had a white Shakespear WonderRod with a Pfluger Medalist reel. To me, at that time, they were the Grail.
I have a bunch of rods now, but I have to say my favorite one is which ever one I have in my hand at the time. |

My first outfit was a 5 wt Ugly stik lite fly rod and a cortland crown 2 reel. Real cheap outfit but it got me started
My favorite outfit now is a 6 weight sage TCR and a sage 3300 reel. Some say is it worth 1200 bucks for that outfit, I say absolutely |

1st- Shakespear Wonder Rod 9ft. 7wt. and Orvis Madison reel
favorite- By far the best casting and my favorite all around rod is my Sage DS2 9ft. 7wt.(hence the name )with a Cabelas Prestige 2 reel and a Scientific Anglers Nymph taper line. I have an orvis clearwater 6ft. 3wt. which is a dream for casting dries in many of the tight streams I fish here in PA. I also have a Sage Launch 9ft. 5wt. that is and excelent rod for trouting. |

My first fly rod was a 20.00 dollar Wal-Mart combo pakage from Shakespeare. It was a five weight and I put it through hell from the time that I was 12 until a few years ago. I landed a 32 in steelhead on that rod but unfortunately that's what ended up doing it in.
I don't really have a favorite...it all depends on what I am fishing for. I like my Orvis 6wt for the bigger waters and steelhead and my St. Croix 4wt for the smaller streams and backwoods waters. The Lamson Velocity reel on my St. Croix is about as smooth as I have ever used. I also like my 8wt for when the salmon are in. I'll always have a special place for that cheap 5wt that caught me so many fish and introduced me to this wonderful sport. |
