Hello, I recently just joined the site and was wondering if anyone called the Cleveland Ohio area their home waters (as I go to school here) or if anyone called the Connecticut River (North of Hartford) Home as I’m from that area....

This looks like a wonderful site and I’m looking forward to exploring it more once i find more time on the PC!

Hello All,

No needs really, just looking for local fishermen....i'm new to flyfishing, though i've been a fisherman for the last 21 years....All it took was on bass on a popper and i've been hooked since may.....looking to try for some steel this winter....

What do you target?

yeah, i've known it's great trout up that way....i'm really into the striper run in the river, so i'm planning on picking at least a few schoolies out come april/may/june

i'm also going to try a trip to montauk for some fly/light tackle stripers this october....

when i head back into town, we should hook up....though i'm sure you'll be doing rollcasts around me....

steelhead start showing up in november in good numbers in river like the rocky, vermillion, chagrin, conneaut, and the grand. streamers like woolly buggers, esl, and zonkers work well along with various nymphs and egg patterns, especially glo bugs and sucker spawn. good luck

Thanks Orvisguy....i actually pulled 2 nice steelhead out of the Vermillion last year (6&Cool but with a noodle rod....i know a few holes on that side of town, but i'm at school on the east side, so i'm looking for some local knowledge here also....i managed to take a look at the lake this morning (i know it's early still) and had a rod with me, but the water was real rough and the clarity just wasn't there.....

I'm anxious....

Are you from the area as well?

I live also on the east side of Cleveland...grew up here fishing farm ponds and small lakes with bait and artificial lures, then started flyfishing after college. Have lived around the country in the 12 years since then: Seattle, West Virginia, Rhode Island, and enjoyed tossing around flies in all those places. Here in Cleveland there is definitely fun fishing for largemouths/sunfish in stillwaters, smallmouth bass in the rivers, and of course the steelhead run in late fall through early spring. Hopefully your class schedule for school this semester allows you to get out for some steelheading during the week! If you have access to a car, the Chagrin and the Grand are easy to reach and offer many good spots.

Yeah, i've got the car, and plan on keeping the gear in it at all times.....we all know how the need to get a line wet occurs at the drop of a hat, so i've gotta be prepared....i think the Grand is going to be my main stop, but i do like the Vermilllion....
