yo -- my friend jason who runs www.fliesandfinswest.com took me to wyoming to fly fish the spring creeks . ... here is an article about that trip.
http://www.fliesandfins.com/article398.html
i guess what i learned was...
1. look for the fish
2. yes they often require super small stuff and real light tippet BUT .. you might be surprised how often the opposite is true .. if they ain't touchin that super small stuff ... don't be afraid to throw something big.... also .. the trout were spooky ... but don't forget, it sounds dumb, but if your fly isn't in the water you definately are not gonna catch them... point being .. i stood there on the bank for a long time waiting for the perfect opportunity ... then i thought to myself .. geeze its been a long time .. maybe the "perfect" opportunity will never come ... so i started fishing... and some fish were spookier and less interested than others .. so spend some time fishing to one fish .. if he isn't willing to take .. don't be afraid to leave him and find another ... one thing i was amazed with out there was .. THER IS NO LACK OF FISH... so move on .... some fish just ain't in the mood to eat ...
ok -- good luck and check FFwest ... jason-c will have more refined information available to you than what i was able to offer ... but every little bit helps.. cya.
