| Anyone read any of Gierach's books? I find them to be a great read and this guy really knows what its all about. Just finished Trout Bum, currently reading At The Grave of the Unknown Fisherman. Really unbelievable stuff. he also writes for Fly Rod & Reel. |

| Agreed. I too have read many of his books. I love how he can relate different aspects of fly fishing with day to day social interaction. |

I remember when I used to read for fun these days I have to read volumes upon volumes of technical stuff and I just can't bring myself to sit down with a book.
I do pull out my copy of Trout Maddness (Traver) from time to time, and Patrick McMannus always gave me a chuckle. Maybe I'll give Gierach a try.
Any suggestions on which one to start with? |

| I've read all of John Gierach's books and am just finishing "Death, Taxes and Leaky Waders: (a greatest hits collection from 6 of his book and recommended reading for a first time Gierach reader.) For fly fishing fans, Gierach is a Rock Star legend. I hope to meet him and A.K. Best in my lifetime. |

| Yeah, they're really enjoyable. I've just read a couple... I end up buried in reference books too much while I worked on my site. I'm looking forward to having time to read some more Gierach, Macquarrie, etc. |

I grew up in Boulder Colorado fishing all the same waters he talks about so his ability to create mood and place really takes me home.
I'm thinking I might have been the little kid walking out of the Sawhill Ponds sying " no point, its all fished out".
I recommend his books to people (like my mom) to get some glimpse of what it is about the overall flyfishing thing thats bittten me most of my life. Is it the fishing? The disconnectedness? The quiet special places? The bug game? The existential scoring system? The zen of neymphing? All I can answer is yes.
I even know where the Chairmen's bass was... |
