hey .. i posted this on whip's site and thought you all would get a good laugh at my expense too ... enjoy.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, on a recent trip i was steelhead fly fishing with whippa, mooncaster and boz ... when we fish with 4 people .. it makes sense to NOT show up to a run and have 4 guys start firing away ... instead, at each new run one guy gets first casts for 5 minutes and we then we rotate guys and the next guy tries a different fly etc... it is much less of a zoo, much less likely to spook fish and kind of fun sometimes because everyone is involved ... but it can be tough sitting on the bench when your not the one casting ... so we mix it up by saying each guy gets 5 minutes or 3 casts etc...
anyway, because we had 3 guys sitting on the bench and one fishing ... boz was shooting video .. whip put us in a hole that we knew was holding steel ... i was first up in the batting order .... no joke .. first drift .. and i hooked up .. but from there it was all down hill .. the hot chromer ran at me and then away and the slack line wrapped around my reel seet ... i fumbled to get it unwrapped and everything just fell to pieces .......... hence, the title of the post .. burned by the chrome.
Here is the video of the beat down ....

hey mooncaster ... i am glad you got enjoyment out of my debockle ... i could hear you laughing in the background all throughout the video ... man, once that fly line got wrapped around the reel seat .. and the fish got out into that super high water and fast current .. it was all over ... i would have had a good shot at landing the fish if i could have kept him in the slower pocket .. but the whole reel seet tangle isse gave forced me to run forward so as to not snap the tippet ... but running forward gave the fish a free pass to the fast water ... and once he got in that fast water ... it was game over.... ahhhhhhh .... i love steelhead... master escape artists .. they never cease to amaze me in the number of ways the burn me ...

That happened to me last year on the Skagit. It was a huge fish. Kory and my buddy PJ saw the fish make this huge tail walk right in front of them. It would have been the biggest steelhead I have ever caught! The line did not break but my spirit did.

That was entertaining Jeremy! Man I can't even count on my 2 hands how many times I've been there. I had a good laugh only thinking of my own hang-ups played out. Nature of the game.

You get an A for effort on that one. There was a lot of that going around that day. You got reel seat wrapped and I got tip wraped down in the "chrome zone". So many variables involved out there. Thats half the fun.

Sorry to laugh at you, most of the laughter was cuz it was your 1st drift. Thats exciting to watch! I'm still thinking of the one I lost there at the end of the day cuz I put the screws to it too soon. They are so strong even when the don't have the high water on their side. As if they needed any more advantages. --Mooncaster
