Found your site last night just when I was getting ready to hit the rack and ended up watching vids for another hour. Great stuff here.

Quick Bio: I spend my time chasing steel in winter/spring, move on to carp on the flats late spring, trout on bugs, hex at night, mouse patterns late summer, move into salmon in the fall, then steel, and do it all again....toss in a little grouse and woodcock and I'm a happy camper.

Keep up the great work fellas!

Here's a quick snap of my most recent.

i looked at your photo for some time .. and tried to find any flaw in that steelhead .... i did not find one ... perfect profile ... no lampre scars ... nice blend of chrome and colored cheeks with green back .. and well uniformed black dots on upper part of body and tail ...

i'm not an expert by any means ... but i love to look at fish ... and each one is like a work of art and unique in there own way ... certainly not all the same ... your fish is definately a nice work of art in my book..

ps.. i hear some guys talk about wild fish and sometimes they mention the white parts on the tips of the fins as being indicative of a wild steelhead???? is this true? might your fish be wild? are there wild steelhead in mi? i know there are wild steelies in ontario, or at least thats walk folks tell me ... thanks.

Thanks J, that was one sweet fish...aren't they all though Very Happy . I'm the same way, I could stare at pics all day long (if I can't be out).

Talking with various people the PM doesn't stock so these fish are reproducing...hence wild fish. Regarding the white tips I'm not sure. It got me thinking though so I looked over some other pictures and did noticed most (depending on the quality of the pic) they had a hint of a white tip. I also looked at a pic of a clip fin I caught this fall from the same river (made a wrong turn somewhere) and it did not have the white...so maybe there is something to be said for that.

Jeff

Jeremy,
MI clips all the pectoral fins on their plants, so unless they missed them at the hatchery, or they came from another state, they are wild fish. Colehatch is right on about the PM (Pere Marquette River). They don't plant the mainstem and with it being one of the few rivers without dams in MI, the fish are able to wander way up to spawn. We do have a fair amount of natural reproduction here on account of favorable water temps (some spring fed rivers) and excellent spwning gravel. When are you making your trip out here Laughing Laughing Laughing
Tight lines,
Rick
ps...just over a week until I hit the "canal"...flies are all tied up and my rods have been shipped. I'll bring the digital for a good "fish tale" Wink

I live up in Traverse City and there a ton of flats in this area where they cruise in the spring. I got into them pretty good last year. Actually ended up doing an outdoor segment on the news. Those carp are good fun...heavy fish.
