I would love to know who is going after carp on the Grand river in michigan. ITs hard to find people in in the grand haven/spring lake area to fish with.

I have in the past(Grand Haven)...much better in the TC area, where you can see the fish, present the fly, and watch the take. The average size is much better as well, with some fish pushing the 20+ mark. And those large fish do their best to get off the flats ASAP, meaning a good chance you will see backing in short order. I also see Fremont Lake as a dry fly possibility as the last time I was walleye fishing there (may/june period), very large fish were sipping "cottonseeds" off the surface. I never pursued it further but it very well could be the ultimate carp adventure.

Up here it's all shallow flats sight fishing in ankle to knee high water. The carp come up in these areas during spawn. You'll see big pods of active spawners and alot of singles cruising....fish the singles coming straight on. Crayfish patterns and buggers work well. Drop it about 3 feet in front of one and work slow, small strips....watch the take and you're off to the races. Good stuff.

There's some big carp here in presque isle bay in lake erie. I have not fished for them with the fly yet but I am planning on it this year. When I say big I mean like 40 and up to 50 lbs. Dont get me wrong though. thats far from average. average being around 6-10 lbs. sound like fun stuff though.
