Man I got cabin fever bad Exclamation One of the things that keeps me going is planning excursions for next year.

My first trip is really work but it's fun to me and that would be guiding. Last year I had a blast and this year i'm switching lodges. The reason is that the lodge i will be working for is a fly fishing only lodge for trout and char. I love salmon but two of my least favorite part of last year was cleaning tons of salmon and trolling. Trolling is actually easier physically but not as much fun as guiding fly fisherman.

The second trip i'm planning on is a steelhead trip in October. Gonna go to the Karluk river on kodiak. It's the larget river on kodiak and gets the state's second largest steelhead run.

Who else has some trip plans this year and what are they?

well - last year i had a great year for firsts ... especially in the tuna family .. got my first bluefin tuna on the fly, first albie on fly and foot and first bonito on fly and foot ... so, for me, it would be cool if every year i could focus some of my "bigger' trips to target fish that are on my life list .. with that said ... 2007 ... i am planning a couple trips that include ..

1. atlantic salmon - canada
2. mako shark - maine and rhode island
4. sea run brown trout - canada or maine
5. skipjack tuna - rhode island
6. tarpon - florida
7. bonefish - florida/bahamas

and then ... for some more localized trips .. i plan on doing alot of what i did last year .. and that is exploring more of my own state ... maine has soooooooo much water both fresh and salt .... and the possibilities are truly endless .... it can become easy to fall into a rut and keep fly fishing the waters that are so familiar year after year .. but last year, i really enjoyed fishing waters that i had never fished before both fresh and salt ..... so, i have my topo map all marked up and there are some pretty exciting new water to explore ... both in the mountains and on the coast ... some, close to home and some far from home ...

This next season I plan on spending alot more time in the Mid-Atlantic (PA, WV, VA, MD). Then next fall I hope to target steelhead in MI and OH. That will be a new species for me. I live in Indianapolis so the fishing is slow here in the winter but I plan on getting at the steelhead this spring and the Skamania Steelhead this summer in MI.

Any suggestions for the Mid-Atlantic region would be appreciated. I really want to go for stripers out in VA and MD.

I will likely do all of my fishing in NY with some trips to VT and maybe CT

Dry fly fishing on the big D
More exploration of local water that has wild trout including some nice fish
Smallmouth mania
More Carpin
Stipers on the Hudson
Getting and then learning how to properly use a SPEY rod.

I plan to travel down to Long Island Sound (about a mile or two from my home on Long Island). I need to make an appointment to see some stripers. So my plans are to do my homework and then hit the beach as often as possible! I've got a couple of bets on the outcome and... I only win the bets if I don't catch fish (hmmmm...). I guess it's kind of a win-win situation? (No, Jeremy and Marcel, I haven't forgotten!)

Gonna be In Victoria B.C. next week for work but packin for fishing, hopeing to find some island chrome. The river here's just about frozen over so when I get back from out west the only fishin I'll have will be through a ten inch hole in the ice for whities and lakers.Come early spring though I'll be puttin some miles on the mule in search of chrome all over Ontario and by the looks of things a trip to the Salmon in N.Y. and points unknown in Maine, from what I've seen here things look awsome there.
p.s. you guys got any open water there around the salmon?

My father and I are planning a trip to Canada for pike and specks. We haven't pulled it together yet but we're thinking late spring. I had a business trip to CO planned for then end of Feb that I was hoping to piggy back a San Juan trip but that got canned. Other than that I'm like Jeremy in that I really need to explore more of my own state. The fishing isn't half bad here in NW MI and it's easy to fish the same water all the time. The UP has a million options and I think I'm like others in that you get honed into fishing the same areas alot. Time to break out and explore more.
