I have been looking into buying a six weight avid series rod. I am having some trouble finding any reviews on the avid series of fly rods though. Do any of you guys/gals own an avid and how do you like it? I appreciate any info you can provide like if it is too stiff/fast, too slow, comparable rods, etc... Thanks a bunch.

Go out and test cast one - no online review is going to help you decide how it casts for your casting style.

I my opinion st.crolx makes great rods, is a good company and provides great customer service. I would not hesitate buying any of their products if they fit my needs.

I enjoy very fast rods and consider the 4wt 2pc avid to be a medium fast action rod. I have never casts any of the Avid 6wt rods but would expect them to be medium fast as well.

I have cast the 9ft 6wt 4pc legend ultra from 2003 and this is my favorite rod for casting streamers with sinking lines on windy western stillwaters.

I tried out an avid 9' 6wt and loved it, so I bought one. It casts great and is just a little slower than my other rod, which is perfect. It is a little more on the moderate end than med. fast. I really think it casts just as well as a lot of higher-end rods, and the price was soooo nice in comparison. It loads nicely on forward and back cast and shoots line like a champ. I needed a rod for the salt too, so I just ordered an avid 9' 10wt as well. It was dirt cheap so I had to get it. I'm hoping it casts as nice as the 6wt. I was so impressed by the 6wt that I didn't even give the 10wt a test run. Shocked

My dad likes the slower action of the Avid so I got him a 5 when I got my Legend Ultra. It casts very well but I can toss mine another 10' with the same amount of effort. When the winds blowing the faster action is a bonus and you can still make pretty long casts.

Matching a line to the rod is the key. Lot a times you can go up a size on a fast action rod when using full lines and they will cast easier and further. Other lines, like a #8 cortland sink tip line I use on a 10 weight Black Diamond rod and can cast it over 70 feet when wind ain't bad. The diamond has a softer action than the Avid.

Have two Legend ultra's, a 5 and 12. Over line both rod's. They both cast great, as good as or better than my Scott or Sage but I use the different rods for different conditions.

Usually I try out a rod before buying and like to try it with at least two or three different lines.
