This summer in the midwest is forcasted to be the return of the 17 year Cicada infestation. The old saying is "Match the Hatch" is there any hope of taking advantage of this phenomenon. I saw a youtube.com video of a guy tying a cicada fly for carp, and I was wondering if anyone knows of any good spots to fish these carp in the illinois area. Also, does anyone know any good carp patterns or Cicada patterns targetting anyfish. The one I saw and tied is just a big wooly bugger with heavy lead wrapped under the chenille and no tail. Does anyone have any other ideas... I'm going to mess around with it more, maybe adding some little legs. Any thoughts...?

A couple things...
...you have officailly devoted too much time to your fly fishing intrest on the computer with the develompment of the fish in your signature!
...I have heard about the cicadas, will it be the "rise" nationwide?
...There is an article of the Fly Fisherman Magazine website about the cicadas and carp. Read that to start.
...Please let me know how it goes and what happens. That could be what brings "my" 40 and 50 lb Lake Erie carp to hand. Never Know!

Steelie,
Yea the fish signature was developed through pure boredom and yes i should probably get a life... I will definitely dig through my Fly Fishermans I have no idea what will happen but I have seen the monster carp in the harbors of Lake Michigan and If i can manage to hook up with some of those bears i will definitely give you a shout.

Regarding your glyph (for The FliesandFins FlyFisherman Formerly Known As Bonefisher = TFFFFFKAB), my feeling is that the parenthesis should be facing the other direction so that it represents a gill plate. Did you have something else in mind that it should represent?
my suggestion: >--^-(*> instead of >--^-)*>
(chasing a cicada with its mouth open >--^-(*< =o )
(chasing a dry fly with its mouth open >--^-(*< * )
(chasing a minnow with its mouth closed >--^(*> >-"o <"oh no!")
just some mindless drivel....

I had one crash into my screen yesterday and I thought a helicopter was crashing into the window. There here also.
