I fished the Salmon and Oswego Rivers pretty regularly from 95-97. My sister in law was stationed at ft. drum up there and when we visited it was always a good excuse to go fish.

Haven't been back.....damn' shame.

This is the year. I'm going to take a week toward the end of October to hit the steel.

If i recall, they took a fly on the swing pretty well until the water was around 43 degree's. Then I ended up nymphing for them.

Back then I was primarily fishing eggs and egg sucking leaches with some old atlantic salmon flies I had.

Are the leaches that have gone popular tied with zonker strips or marabou?

What are effective colors?

I have caught steelhead on both the zonker strips and marabou. Bring both because it depends on thier mood. I have had the most success with red or a purplish red head. I hammered them this early part of spring with that combo. As the water warmed up I nailed them on wooly buggers of pretty much any color as long as it had a little flash in it and they were big (size 4). Goodluck this fall.
