Nice fish. My wife always laughs at my pictures I take after I let the fish go. One day I said to her "here's one I had just caught". She doesn't let it go either. All my pictures are now accompanied by "this is one you just let go", "here's one swimming AFTER you caught it", "this is one running like hell, I mean after you caught it". I need to learn to shoot off a couple during the fight like your brown at the bottom. You can at least see a fly and some tippet!

LOL! My wife says the same thing. She also asks me what the point is if I just let them go anyways? It's all about outwitting the quary. That day that I caught those fish they where picky and I mean picky. I seriously changed my tippet and fly at least thirty times before I dialed in on what they wanted. I even matched the bugs I saw them hitting but then my tippet would be to visible so I would have to go down a size. It got to the point that the water was so clear that my tippet was so light that I had to be very careful setting the hook and fighting them because otherwise I would just snap off. I also have got to get out of the stelhead fishing mentality of setting hooks.

Sometimes it doesn't matter what you throw and they'll bite. Sometimes it doesn't matter what you throw because they won't. Every now and then I'll have to resort to size 26 flies and 8x tippet. You can't be rough with that set up at all. I tend to set hooks a little strong myself.

Sometimes they do hit anything. The other day when I went fishing it didn't matter what I threw at them. I probably could have thrown a cigarrette butt on the surface with a hook and caught one. But then you get days where they are so picky that it doesn't even matter if you match the hatch...everything has to be absolutely perfect. When I go to the lighter tippet I try to let them set the hooks themselves. ANd I have to remind myself to not grab the tippet to land the fish or to bring it close or ping there goes somemore tippet and another fly.
