Shark'n on the fly is about as good as it gets off Morehead City NC now. We have been catching sharks on the fly from 40 -100 lbs for the last (3) weeks. Mostly Blacktips and Duskys with a few small Tigers in the mix. I destroyed a 10 Wt last week. The butt section snapped and the mid section snapped from the recoil. Break out your meat stick for some big time pullage! Simple fly pattern: Red or Orange Mangnum Zonker Strips. One 4" strip tied along the shank of a 4/0 4x Gamakatsu Octopus Hook with another 4" strip palmered back towards the eye. Here is whats left of a few of mine.

A couple of small Duskies checking us out. A few moments after I took the photo, I hooked into a 100lb Blacktip. Leadered it after 20 minutes. The shark freaked and made another blistering run. I spent the next 20 minutes playing tug of war. With so much tension on the leader the 80 lb test barrel swivel pulled apart. I've never seen this happen before.
Fat Tire, I need a wing man for the next trip.

Nice report, but common, you did that damage to the fly with YOUR teeth didn't you? Nice photo of those sharks too.

sweet stuff ... i was down in florida this year and we were running a bait slick in the gulf 15 miles or so offshore .. it was awesome and i had a blast trying to trick the blacktips ... they were not easy to fooled and though they would track the fly and pay immediate attention to it when it hit the water, they would analyze it very closely and often turn away at the last minute ... i never did hook one on the fly but casted to many and had all of them come so so close to taking the fly ... i loved it though, it was very visual and exciting ..... looking forward to doing it again sometime ... you guys still chasing the monster jacks down there too? seth sent me some pics .. those things are amazing .. rod busting fish for sure ... looking forward to getting down there to fish with you guys this fall during the fall albie run .... gonna be a blast!

Matt1515, You are suppose to chew on all of your fly before you use them. Everbody knows that.
Jeremy, these sharks were not finicky at all. We caught them following Shrimp Trawlers. As the captains culled there by-catch, sharks were swimming in formation behind the boat. The fly pattern did not matter. The only thing I noticed was they would turn away from your fly if you tried to strip it. Dead drifting the fly was automatic.

Alberts will start showing up in late September but usually the first (2) weeks of November is prime time. Looking forward to fishing with you.
