Just outside of Lowville, New York lies a little obscure creek called Otter Creek. I had never fished it before so combine that with the fact that it is located just at the beginning of the Adirondacs was enough for me to make the hour drive from my house. Well, that hour drive turned into two as I got lost after recieving some bad advice from some locals. I was about to head for home or to find another stream to try when I came upon a bridge. On that bridge was a small obscure sign that read "Otter Creek." Releaved, I searched for a parking spot and walked along the dark amber colored waters. My polarized glasses where about useless and against the darkness of the water. It would run along for a period of shallow water and then go to deeper pools and then shallow mixed in with deeper pools.

Bugs weren't really hatching at this time of day so I spent an almost fruitless twenty minutes scaning for risers. I was about ready to head to a different spot when I saw the tell-tale ripple of a fish rising at the edge of the current. I tied on a concoction that I had invented (it's a combo between a mosquito and black nat) and sent it almost perfectly into the ring of ripples. I immediately had a take and after a short battle on my 4wt I brought him to shore.

I ended up catching about every little brown in that section so I decided to move upstream.
As you can see, not much casting room but it was loaded with fish. It seemed that every pool held fish, but the native brookies kept eluding me.

I call this last fish the beached whale because as I was landing him he ended up sitting like a beached whale long enough for me to snap a pic.

All in all I had a great trip despite getting lost and the twenty mile an hour winds. I am definitely going back to explore that stream further.
