I am headed to the coast this weekend and because of time restraints and location, I will be somewhat footbound. From what I understand, there are some places that I can get to in some back channels and inlets on foot but I wanted to try my hand in the surf as well. This is one place I never seem to have a lot of luck. Anyone have any good tactical suggestions or resources I could read? I've tried so many different things in the past but can't seem to find my groove in the surf. The waves are fairly large and break points can be 100 yards from the shore.

You will definitely want some type of stripping basket and a sinking line. Floating lines will collapse in the waves.

Unless you just really like to curse alot!

with spinning gear on the atlantic side of FL, most strikes occur very close to the beach (snook, jacks, mackerel, etc); so I'd say to fish the fly all the way in. wait for pauses in between wave sets so that the waves don't pull your line around and disturb the action of your fly
