Fly Fishing

So, I think there was a popular book out there that was titled something like "20 places to fly fish before you die" ... I am sure it is a great book, and I know many who have it .. and I think I have thumbed through it while in fly fishing shops ..

I don't know the premise of that book and if it was the authors recommendations of where those places were or rather a collection of peoples insight?? Whatever the case ... I wonder what everyone on this site would consider their top place or place(s) to go before the die ... I also think this would be cool because there are so many people on this site from different regions of the world, it would point out that some peoples "back yards" are another persons dream trip ... So, let's keep it super simple and limit it to one destination .. .. what would be your 1 fly fishing trip you would want to make ... before you die.

MINE:
Australia, Saltwater Fly Fishing - I guess because I see so much on discovery channel about the massive emounts of life and fish species and nutrient rich ocean eco systems in some of the australian waters. I have heard of juvenile marlin or sailfsih (30-40 lbs) being targeted and caught while wading on flats, massive schools of tuna of all makes and sizes and, in general, just so many excotic species and seemingly endless opportunities ... I guess, I envision Australia as being somewhat of "The Last Frontier" in salt water .... So, I guess I am not really certain where I would go in Australia .. or even if it is infact as good as I imagine (but I really think it is) ... either way, that is my "place I would like to go before I die .. "

excellent topic.

Since I've been in a lot of places (mainly Europe), and I am not a saltwater fisherman, the places I want to go before I day are:

- Russian Federation (Siberia) - excellent salmon and brook trouts and also huge samples of my favourite fish "Brook Charr"

- Alasca - to the US citizens might sound funny but that is one of my dream places

Tough question! since i have never fished anywhere out of the U.S. it makes it tough because there are so many beautiful places that i have never seen like iceland, russia, new zealand, austrailia, belize, bahamas, various islands, etc, and thats not including all of the other u.s. states i have never fished like alaska. I think the unltimate fishing extraviganza for me would be mexico. I just hear so much about it, and would love to do it all. I would love to fish the bluewater for dorado, marlin, and tuna, and i would also love to go somewhere like the yucatan to fish for tarpon. And then they have the roosterfish....would love to catch one of those from foot!
Looking forward to hearing what others dream adventures may be....

I would say Alaska as well. I cannot complain much about Maine though. This state has some incredibly diverse fishing and I feel spoiled many many times throughout a season of fishing. However, Alaska has a big-time appeal due to the huge expanses of true wilderness, and dream-like fishing for insane numbers of different salmonids. Not to mention HUGE fish. Alaska it is...and will be before I die.

Man that's tough, I have never fished outside the U.S. and heck I haven't even fished all of alaska! It's hard to fish all of a state that's twice the size of texas and has more coastline than the rest of the lower 48 Combined Shocked

That being said my favorite fish is steelhead/Rainbow. I've always wanted to fish B.C. and after talking to tons of guides and fisherman who have guided and fished all over B.C., Oregon, Washinton, Alaska, California and even the great lakes there seems to be a almost unanimus thought as to where the hottest steelhead are, the Thompson river. The steelhead travel a long ways to get there and the river is the meanest collection of boulders, class 5 rapids and an average flow of 12,000 CFS at it's high point Exclamation

Needless to say thompson river metalheads seem to have an extra gear that no other steelhead has and for that reason I would love to tangle with one Very Happy

Down south America, the Amazon rain forest with all it's canals and rivers, but would prefer to be on a boat or canoe, seen to many big snakes on Tv down there to be wading through anything.

Damn...just one? I would have to say Alaska. One is because of the amazing scenery and area wildlife and for two because it is one of the three states that I haven't been to...yet!

there last winter. Best 15000dollar i ever spent in my life and the next
tripp is booked already. Wink

So many places come to mind....if only one choice, I'd pick Alaska for kings or cohos ... if two choices, I'd add Florida for tarpon, bonefish, permit and whatever else might be swimming by!
