"everyone should have a good mechanic, lawyer and accountant" .. so .. pat is our resident mechanic ... he is looking for TIPS to write about that will help people .. the guy knows everything from fixing, troubleshooting, old motors, new motors, equipment, to how to negotiate selling or buying your car or truck to getting the best deal .... so, if your like me, a COMPLETE MORON when it comes to car and or truck stuff ... this site is for you .. or even if you are a car finatic ... pat is just like you .. BOTTOM LINE - pat is looking for tips to write about and help us .. believe me, there is no stupid question or tip to suggest .. see the site and you will see what a wealth of good information pat is ... so fire away ... view pat and www.carandtrucktips.com as our Inhouse Flies And Fins Mechanic ------- his only function is to help us not get screwed!!!! pretty cool, i think .. thank pat! Back to top jeremy Newbie Joined: May 15, 2003 Posts: 824 Location: Portland, Maine Posted: Wed Mar 05, 2008 2:47 pm    Post subject: ps he is good with boats too .. pat has helped me fix engine problems when i was broke down 3 time via cell phone on the water ... he LITERALLY saved the day for me ... same with many car/truck issue ... seriously, a few times this past season on the water ... i realized the value of a good mechanic and guy who knows the ins and outs of the auto industry .... so hence pat and my idea for adding value to flies and fins ... where's the connection you might ask? .. well, a fly rod is certainly an important tool for fly fishing ... but if your car is busted and you can't get to the river ... and an overpriced dealer or mechanic gives you the "shine" and charges you too much ...... well, than ya can't go fly fishing .. so, our cars and trucks are probably one of the most important pieces of fly fishing gear .. certainly the most expensive ...... helps to have a friend advise ... pat is our friend .. who has the credibility and 35 years experience to advise .... use his advise and suggest tips .... that's what it's for .... I have had the pleasure of meeting him a few times and he is always pleasant and full of ideas. Check out his site for some tips on car and truck related questions. Back to top jeremy Newbie Joined: May 15, 2003 Posts: 824 Location: Portland, Maine Posted: Thu Mar 06, 2008 1:14 pm    Post subject: ya ya right --- that was crazy .. got a flat tire and couldn't find the spare after i got my wife a new car and she gave me her "hand me down" ... called tow company, got new tire, big mess .. finally back on road i called my wife FURIOUS .. and said, "i can't believe you give me your car knowing how much remote traveling i do here in maine WITHOUT a spare tire!!!!" .. she says, "jeremy, you moron, look in the rear view mirror" .. low and behold .. there was the spare tire .. On the back door!!!" ... anyway --- pat -- i got a great tip for you to put on carandtrucktips.com - here goes -- - what would you recommend as must have "tools" for remote travel into the woods or where "civilization" is not close .. also would would you have if "money" weren't an option .. so basically, for us folks here in maine or other regions of the world .. where traveling logging roads for many miles to get to a river/stream is a very real scenerio (like i do all the time) ... and getting LOST and stuck (is an even more real scenerio) ... what would you recommend a guy like me should ABSOLTUELY have and "have" if i could afford it .. thanks. I believe so ...thanks Pat! In fact I may owe my first tarpon to your help...or jeremy and I would've gone wherever the wind took us in the Gulf as I recall. Your rig truly is the most important piece of fishing gear! Be good to it. good idea... It is up on carandtrucktips. take a look Back to top jeremy Newbie Joined: May 15, 2003 Posts: 824 Location: Portland, Maine Posted: Thu Mar 06, 2008 9:49 pm    Post subject: sweet nice ... all stuff i never thought of .. i especially think that the portably battery jumper applies to my vehicle ... as, i can't believe it, but the lights don't go off automatically .. and often i leave my house in the dark with lights on .. and when i show up to spots it's light .. and i often leave my lights on by mistake .. also ... you say "the logging roads farily well traveled" .. that is going under the assumption that you don' make a WRONG turn ... if that happens, it's pretty easy to revert back to "the old days" .... also, i drove into a remote pond 30 miles or so on log roads last year ... only to find that 4 miles from the pond on the road, i could not cross 2 massive boulders that were too high and exposed from the serious off road vehicles and trucks spinning their wheels to get over .. so, i was out of the game with my little honda CRV ... anyway .. all great advice to bring along ... of course, none of which i actually had ... will definately at least get the necessities this season ... Back to top jeremy Newbie Joined: May 15, 2003 Posts: 824 Location: Portland, Maine Posted: Thu Mar 06, 2008 9:59 pm    Post subject: towing a boat ... so ... i got another one .. seems lots of people tow boats, or rafts or what not .... how bout a tip on any good ideas you have seen through the years in regards to things like ... - how many straps? - spare parts to have - greesing bearings - fixing a bearing ... do it myself or pay? .. easy or hard? - mistakes you have seen people make - saving gas mileage - install my own hitch or pay to have someone do it? - must haves, must do's .. no matter how lazy "you are" - ps . don't be afraid to throw in "must have tools" on boat just for good measure .. last year, i towed my 17 foot skiff ..
