How are you getting down there? I am actually trying to throw together a last minute "gotta get out of Maine's shitty weather" trip down there late March as well. If I go I will be bringing my flats skiff with me so that I don't have to get a guide. When will you be down there? I have done tons of research and it looks like if you can get into a skiff or Kayak, then you should be able to explore some of the inshore tidal flats and creeks for reds

Wow pulling a boat down from Maine to NC for a last minute trip!!! It would seem to me that flying there and getting a guide for a day or two would be cheaper than hauling a boat there (and back) for a short period of time. Especially with the price of fuel. Don't you think that you would waste a bunch of time trying to figure out the water that guides down there have fished for say.....years? Palne ticket, Guide, chance at fish. Thats the way I would roll. Good luck.

I usually take my sea kayak down with me, and was pretty much leaning towards that anyway. I met a guide down there a couple of years ago,(actually he and his bro were from up here originally) he was using sit on tops for fly fishing .Gas prices do suck, but I have family that live there so my accomodations are pretty well set. And god knows nowadays with the efficiency of our airlines, you could easily get stuck on some runway somewhere, trapped in a little commuter plane for hours because of some problem. Going for a week or more m akes it a litlle more cost effective. Thanks for the info guys.

Actually Joey tickets are around $400 plus ride to and from airport is pricey. They add in a rental car or taxi rides to and from guide and accommodations, then add in say $75 a night for cheap hotel, and then add at least $1000 for 2 days guided, and wham your at at least $1500-$2000. Now if a friend and I drive down with my boat, do our research ahead of time, stay at a KOA campground and bring electric heaters for a cabin we can do the trip for less then $350 a piece for 4 days fishing. To me thats worth the 14 hours each way in the car.
