Hi,

I don't know anything at all about fly fishing in Greece. However, I did remember somebody on this site having gone to the Greek Islands, so I did a search on the site and found it .. Here are two posts that may help you ... it seems that, in general, (according to marcel and the other guy who was looking for fly fishing information on Greece) that there is not much information out there. So, hope this helps. Also, Marcel is from Germany .. and becasue of time differences etc.. he is often on this site at different times than folks in the usa .. so, he may see this here in the coming days and be able to help you a bit further .. but here are the posts that may be able to give you some inisght into fly fishing in Greece. Good luck

I have been flyfishing in Greece a couple of times, and it really depends on where you are going.

You can flyfish for mullet with light gear on most of the coast line and that's fun ... but a bit boring in the long run.
There's a lot of different fish, including Tuna, in the waters around Greece, but it is really diffecult to get them.
You will need a guide, but that too depends on where you are going.
I did not manage to get a fly-fishing guide in the area where I was last time I was there. Therefore I had to hook up with some local commercial fishermen who allowed med to come along and fish from their boat while they where having a lunch break. - I got skunked

Confused

Jeremy, I am not from Germany but from the Netherlands.
I live right on the Dutch/German border so I fish in Germany often.

I know all this geography stuff is not your thing so I forgive you Very Happy

In Greece I tried to fish from shore but had no luck, the only fish I saw there where mullet and while snorkeling the odd seabass.

@ Marcel_Karssies :
Sorry to hear that you did not get any fish from the shore... did you try to fish for the mullet ?? Even though they are very small in comparison to the ones we get in Denmark they bare really fun on light gear Smile

I did not get any of the mullet, the ones in the picture where pretty small and located in an outflow of a freshwater lake probably fed by a small stream from the mountains (Corfu).

The piece of bread in the picture was from a Greek guy who was fishing there in what was a "no fishing" zone.
His mo: a loaf of bread ensnared with a line dotted with hooks was launched into the water, the mullet would come out in force and munch on the bread. When there where enough mullet around he would suddenly pull on the line in order to snag some of unlucky mullet (his dinner).

The place I fished had clean water but the only fish around where very small mullet and tiny seabream so I cancelled my fishing ventures there.
I have not been often to Creece but fishing on Crete and Corfu was dissapointing to say the least.
There is one plus though, great food and ideal weather for taking pictures of the blue sea (used a polarizer off course)
Locations where Acharavi Beach at the northern end of the Island looking towards Albania and a picture taken from the monastary of Paleokastritsa
