G'day from Australia, I have been coaching my younger sister in the art of saltwater fly casting here in Oz and she loops her 9wt wicked as now!
Loves it that much she has just bought another rod an 8wt and we are off to the Cook Islands to catch her first Bonefish. I have thrown a fly all over our country for the past 10yrs and never ran into a female casting flies. My sister wants to know if there are any that stand along your shores in the States. She gets some pretty crazy looks when she's out casting. The sport here is dominated by males and she loved to know she isn't the only one. Cheers Anzac |

Hi,
Boz's wife emelia is an amazing fly fisher .. and an amazing fly caster .. He and she can probably fill you in more, but I do know that boz tell me that there are some perplexed looks when the "status quo" fly fisherman come down river in their waders and such and see emilia in a bikini throwing out some amazing long casts with tight loops ... I have fished with emilia and she is, indeed, a very good fly fisher ... Other than that however, I don't see many saltwater female fly fishers here in the USA ... whether it be in florida or northeast .. statistically, i just don't run across them .... |

Hi it's Anzac's sister here.. Yes when i'm out fly casting its dominated by old males who look at me strangely but that doesn't deter me from the sport i love. Hopefully one day there will be more women fly casters like emilia and i which would be awesome. Off to go fly fishing with my new 8wt rod...Cant wait!! |

There are more around. I've dated two women who were decent flyfishers. In fact, it's not uncommon to fish in the presence of women at some of the spots I frequently fish. Usually they're the wife or sister of someone else who flyfishes hard, but not always. Opening day was earlier this week here in Maine and there was a woman out wading amongst the rest of the crowd.
But, Boz' wife Emilia is the only one I know to fish in a bikini.
For a little inspiration, here's a shot of Cathy Beck and Maine guide John ford with a tuna she landed on the fly.
