My girlfriend and I both took the day off today, and with the weather being nothing special we stayed local. We've recently outfitted her with a full fly rod set up and I've taken her out on the water a few times already, without any success...I was starting to worry that she might lose some motivation.
So, today we went to a tiny local pond that does not require wading and has plenty of room for a back cast, and is full of large mouth bass. The weather was a bit chilly and overcast, but figured it was good practice for her. After about half hour of fishing, I look over as she screams, and I realize that she has a fish on. I was so excited, maybe even more than she was, and ran over and coached her through landing her first fish on a fly rod, a 12 inch large mouth.
The funny thing was I had tied on a joke wolly bugger I had tied with a yellow body and red hackle...but hey, it did the job!
