decreasing to 10 variable my ass. Natty and I got our butts kicked heading out to location Y. Talking to SOBX and jdunn they decided to head to the eastside of the shoals why we headed west. A rough ride and Nattys sour attitude did not last long.
Then it was my turn.
again..after a few less flies.
AJ coming up to eat!
Cuda.
Natty bulldawged the donkey.
...and ofcourse our tribute to Ho and the rest of the barbarians.

We ended up catching 19 AJ's landing only 7 of them. Natty lost half of his fly line and we both lost a shit load of flies. Till next time.

yo - those are soem killer lookin' fish .. never caught one, nor seen any in the water to even fish for .. they look like a powerful killing machine .. somewhat of a mix between a bluefish and the jack cravelle? and then its got that sweet lookin' dorcel fin that's kind of like a bonito's and runs all the way down to the tail .. then the solo line across its face and eye ... reallly cool lookin' species.
how do you fish for them ??? meaning do they round up bait and go nuts on it like albies, bluefish, striper, etc.. are they in big packs or just small groups?? i don't have to ask if they rip line .. they look like tackle busters with the forked hard tail, sleek profile and solid muscle ... nice work man ... i'd like to "lock horns" of those someday. .. while WEARING those horns! the wig is a nice touch too .. love it ......
These are Amber Jacks. They fill up the artificial reefs this time of year. Before catching one a guy told me if amber jacks would jump no one would care about a tarpon. He was right. These jokers are pulling machines. We hooked 19 landing only 7. Using a big stick and straight 40lb mono. If you saw your backing it was game over everytime. They would take you into the wreck and cut you off. We lost 12 flies and half a fly line. Fishing for them is pretty easy. Locate the wreck and drift over it. We were using big 5-6" half and halfs on 500 grain sinking lines. Most the time however you were catching them 10 feet from the boat. Viscious strikes. At times you had singles and doubles...other times it was 10 +. The key with these fish is to get them cranked up. If you get them going its a sight. Great fun. The barbarian helmet just shows you don't need to take this mess so seriously. Come on down anytime. We are fishing for AJ's Sat. morning and hitting the tailing tide for reds Sat. night. Cannot wait.

Funny you say that Joey..the viking helmets were inspired by the famous "Barbarian Bender" located not to far from Edwards, CO. Barbarians are known to binge drink, chew tobacco and bash big fish. Be it in the mountains or by sea.
