I am travelling from Ireland to Los Cabos (last week in September through first two weeks of October). I'm taking my saltwater fly rod as I intend to do some shore fishing while I'm there. Anyone got some friendly tips from experience? Flies, species etc.

Hi,
Ireland to Los Cabos ... you are going to have a blast. Sept. should be very good as the water will still be very warm. I went on a trip this past winter to Mag Bay Mexico (couple hundred miles north of Cabos) .. I had a blast .. and the guy I fished with is now a good friend of mine and his name is Jeff DeBrown owner of The Reel Baja (www.thereelbaja.com) .. anyway .. The Mag Bay marlin stuff he does is secondary to his home water in Cabo (East Cape) .. he fly fishes only and does trips using pongas (little mexican fishing boats) and from foot .... Check out his site, as you might be interested in doing at least 1 day with him on foot or whatever in Cabos .. I highly recommend it, as he is very passionate about fly fishing and definately wants you to catch fish and then you can take what you learn and apply it to the rest of your time there in Cabos. If you do email Jeff .. tell him Jeremy from Fliesandfins.com sent ya, not that it will get you a discount or anything ... but, it will at least give you a "connection" and a reference point... (i think he likes me .. but i could be wrong)
Ok .. so, if you are for some reason not interested in a guide or can't afford it .. totally understandable, and I am just helping you with info that I know .. so it's not my intent to pitch you anything .. i just really think that 1 day guided wade trip for roosters, jacks etc.. might be wise ..
For the Do it yourself info .. I have never actually fly fishing in Los Cabos per se .. but did fish on foot in Mag Bay area ... I do know that on foot you can definately fish for Roosterfish & Jacks .. yellowtail (i think but not certain) .. corvina (i think but not certain) .. anyway ... for the roosters and jacks .. you will want to bring deceiver patterns and mullet patterns ... you know, just some pretty standard stuff like white deceivers, some chartreuse and white clousers and and some big mullett type patterns ... i caught fish on foot in the loreto area too on those types of "all around" deceiver/clouser patterns ... look for fish in the water and/or just find some structure and fire away .. pretty much just have fun .. there's definately no lack of fish though .. and i myself, am eagerly waiting to return to mexico and fish Los Cabos ...

I think your advice is great and I'll definitly take it up.
Hi, i hope you can still get this message since you are probably fishing right now. a few years ago I spend a month in a town/campground just east of Cabo. The place is calles los Barriles.. thee is a fearly cheep hotel there and you can book some very good guides.
