I have been sitting and reading the posts where all you guys give a helping hand to other fly fishermen that come to your area to fish.
I think that it is a cool way to expand your flyfishing around the world, when you have an opportunity to get a helping hand from locals. You guys should be proud of yourselves!

If you need a helping hand with some sea trout fishing in Denmark or the south of Sweden let me know.
Wink

peterdk,

it's all about the network. and, i can't wait to someday hopefully get an opportunity to fly fish in denmark and or sweden with your crew! these days, even though "catching fish" is the central focus and always will be .. what i like most about fly fishing is traveling, fly fishing to species of fish i have never caught, meeting people in different parts of the USA and different parts of the world and learning about the different cultures of fly fishing. it is unbelievable to me, what fliesandfins.com has become. it started out 5 years ago as a little blog between a couple of friends and a way for us to share pics/videos of where our fly fishing travels were bring us etc... now, with 4242 members and still growing .. 250,000 unique visits per year and the shear volume of fishtales in both salt and fresh water from fly fisherman all over the world ... it is unbelievable. i just recently noticed that the total "reads" for freshwater fly fishing articles broke 1 MILLION reads (see here: http://www.fliesandfins.com/topics.html).... and saltwater flyfishing articles is approaching 500,000 reads ... that blows my mind! .... anyway, someone recently sent an email and asked "what's the purpose of this site?" ... a good question ... and made me think about the answer? i think that "the purpose" means different things to different people?? and to be honest, i am not sure what "the purpose is" ... i can say that for me, the purpose of this site is to expand my fly fishing horizon, keep fly fishing "alive" and interesting for me, keep me learning and realizing how much i haven't done and how much is possible and to hopefully - through a lifetime - fly fish all over the world for as many species as possible and learn and experience the cultures of the thousands of people on this site who also share a passion for fly fishing ...

So --- If anyone else is reading this ... I wonder, "what the purpose" of fliesandfins is ... to you? .. maybe, together .. we can figure out "the purpose" ..

It is a place where you can live through others fishing adventures. I like seeing fish tales from places I have never been or even heard of. I have become very good friends with people that I would have never met if it wasn't for fliesandfins....I owe a thank you to fliesandfins for introducing me to those people.

I also owe fliesandfins.com a thank you. I have met so many people through the site and am sure the relationships will last for ever. One of the coolest things that started here on fliesandfins was chating with kray. kray and I both were in high school (he was a year ahead of me) when we started chatting 3 years ago, and then finally, i got the amazing opportunity to go to montana with jeremy this past spring, where we fished and finally met kray in person. I am sure that as the membership on fliesandfins.com grows, so will the amount of people i find myself meeting and fishing with!

Fly fishing and this site compliment one another in a way that thousands of fly fishing enthusiasts all over the world and through the internet, can enjoy the tiniest stream in a remote corner of Maine to the oceans of the world. Personaly, I have fished for species I probably would not have but for flies and fins. I have met people that I otherwise would not know and fished with many. The site has expanded greatly my fly fishing experience and hopefully the experience of others. The above would sound like a good purpose.

I found this site a few years ago while doing some research for trib fishing out here in western, NY. I read a story that was accompanied with photos and a video about steelhead fishing at the Salmon river. I can't remember the name of the story or even the people involved. But, what I do remember was the spirit of excitement that came from the story teller and in the video. There was no product endorsement, no talk of fancy gear or equipment, just a genuine love and excitement for catching a fish with a fly.

As I continued to read other stories from all over the world, I began to see that this genuine love for fly fishing was evident in everything I read. Everyone was included, from the first time fly fisherman to the most experienced guys who spend 200+ days a year flogging water. Not only that, but I continually read about people helping each other with techniques, flies, equipment, etc. And on occasion, hooking up with other members to fish.

I have yet to read about someone who was not included because they didn't fish a certain way or use a certain fly rod. This is why I wanted to be apart of flies and fins! To share a genuine love of fly fishing with others who share the same passion. This is what "fly fishing" is to me. Yes, it is first and foremost the pursuit of fish with a fly, but it is also so much more! And I have yet to find the words to put it all in perspective......That is what flies and fins is for, to fill in those gaps of fly fishing that I can't put into words.
Thanks for the wonderful site!!

Bfly,

"That is what flies and fins is for, to fill in those gaps of fly fishing that I can't put into words. " ...

That, is killer! And speaks to exactly what the purpose of Flies and Fins is for me .. And that's what's kinda funny about it .. It seems to attract people who ONE thing in common. A unmistakable similar passion for fly fishing. And you either have that passion or you don't. There is no inbwetween and no way to fake it. And, it doesn't much matter where you fish, what you fish for, how old you are, whether you have been fly fishing for 1 decade, 1 year or 1 day .. you either have the passion or you don't. And, the people who do have it .... naturally get what flies and fins is about and understand "the purpose." Those that don't have that common "passion" .. don't "get it" and can't understand "the purpose." ...

And, I know this is true .. because, I have crossed paths with so many people from this site in my travels .. and the only one common denomonator is ... that unmistakable yet indescribable energy that they have for fly fishing..... it can't be described really, only felt .. and you can tell immediately if someone feels it or they don't. period.

PS. dude, i have a terrible memory .. were you the guy i fished with in Maine a couple years ago when you were on a whirlwind tour of canada and maine? jeremy, the guy in dentistry school??? i forget and mix up usernames and real names alot .. if not, sorry. if so .. how have you been! did you graduate yet!
