Some friends and I made our annual pilgrimage to Lake Oostvoorne
near the port of Rotterdam.
Lake Oostvoorne is a former sound that was created by damming the sound from the open sea.
The clear water is brackish and mostly rainbow trout are stocked.

The lake

The picture above shows the view towards the northern shore of the lake with in the far back the cranes and chemical plants of the Port of Rotterdam.
The strong wind was from the southwest so we headed for the southern shore for easier casting.
One of us was in the bellyboat and he was into a fish after 15 minutes.

Rainbow trout.

I pretty soon discovered that my waders where as leaky as could be so I made it onto one of the little dams to continue fishing in a more or less dry state.

Normally you could see fish showing themselves either in front of the dams or behind the dams.
Those stones are hiding small shrimp and sticklebacks, the favourite food for the local trout.
It stayed dead though, the whole day no action to be seen.

I found that the best times to fish that lake where before and after sunset when the trout visited the shallows.
At sunset I tied on a small mylar streamer made out of fluorescent orange mylar called a flame or flammen (Danish pattern).
I had just one hit on the fly and was for a short while in contact with a fish, sadly it got away.

Fishing at the lake is tough especially if you lack the local expirience and just visit it once in a while.
Still I was happy I felt at least something.
I fished with my new 10ft Orvis Western2 #6 rod which performed
wonderfully.
Other equipment did fail however.
The wadingshoes are dissolving due to to heavy use, all the tape
covering the seames in my waders are coming off and finally my headlamp went out of business.
Time to invest in some new gear.

Damn! I have been tracking this Ostervoon trip for like 3 years now. I told you this summer that I can't wait to see you tie into one of the monsters that resides in there. The fish your buddy got was a nice looking fish. Once of the better ones I have seen ... but, I know what your going for the "lockness monster" that swims around in Ostervoon. I guess it'll have to wait till next year .. and he only gets bigger between now and then. As always, great shots marcel .. sorry about the leaky waders .. doesn't look like a place that ya wan't to be wet. Hopefully your buddy didn't have to listen to you whine too much Very Happy

Whining? me ...... Never Very Happy

Just ordered a pair of new waders and a couple of wading shoes since the last pair took some beating in RI.

And what the lake is concerned, it is still open and most likely wil get a visit if the weather is suitable.
Currently we are heading into a low temperature scenario with temps way below freezing, then again we do not live in Maine Very Happy
