Hello guys

I'll be in California next autumn (mid september to mid october). I'm really tempted by a stripped bass party.

But Autumn is a good season for this fish ?

I think fishing in SF bay or north of California with a guide (one day or half day)...

Thanks

Alx,

Wish I could help, but I don't know the answer. I did take a few casts off a pier in sanfransisco once .. but it was more so just because I wanted to say i did .. ended up being a cool shot with the Golden Gate bridge as the back drop ... I didn't catch anything.

Anyway - there is a guy on this site "clouserhead" who is from california (sandiego area i think) and he fly fishes alot .. if he sees this post he might be able to help and/or at least point you in the right direction .. or know when the best time for west coast stripers is .. i'd actually like to know the answer too .. as next time i travel to san fran for business .. i can hopefully bring my fly rod and have more success than i did off the piere on my last trip ... also, would be cool to catch a striper from the pacific ocean.

alx-

I am headed out to San Francisco in a week to see a friend of mine. I have heard that the striper fishing is really good right now. I am going to check it out and will report back.

Alx, October is a great time for that area. I would concentrate on the Delta rather than the bay. The bay has not fished well recently. I live in Southern California so I only occasionaly fish the area. If you go to Dan Blanton's board and ask for more specific advice I think you will get what you are looking for. You might want to suggest a trip trade. Often the locals enjoy taking a visiting angler out in the hope for a similar trip should they make to your neck of the woods.

I'll be in San Diego from 1/20 thru 2/27. I plan on taking along tying gear to get a jump on Striper flies. Should I slide a rod and reel into the luggage or not?
