Has anyone ever stayed and fished the waters of “La Villa” de Estancia María Behety. I might have a chance to do a last minute trip but don’t want to bother for all the money if it is a big compromise fishing wise to the other lodges like Kau Tapen or Villa Maria. Any unbiased thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Hawk,
How goes it? I have an email out to Alex (one of my best friends - who is comes and stays with me in the USA every summer .. and this year, his stay got extended into steelhead season - but that's a whole different story) .. Anyway, Alex is an Argentine citizen and lives in Buenos Aires. Most of the videos and fish tales you see on this site from Argentina are of him and his crew of friends and fly fishing guides in all stretches of Argentina from the North to the South. Anyone who has ever met Alex can attest to the fact that he is a very well liked guys (basically, give him a cigar and a bottle of wine .. and he will go and fish anywhere .. and be totally content:) .. Anyway, he is also doing alot of guiding in Argentina these days both in the North for Dorado and down South in Patagonia .. I know he has done several Rio Grande trips for the sea run browns and I know for certain that he is very good friends with alof the Argentine guides who guide for the lodges on the Rio Grande and other rivers .. Do a search here on fliesandfins.com for "Argentina" and you will see lots of great stuff .. and get an idea of the kind of crew Alex rolls with down there . Very good guys .. good fisherman and salt of the earth. Alex will be the "Gringo" in any of the stories/videos (usually with cigar in mouth or hand and drinking wine:))) .. I have an email out to Alex and I am certain he will come on here and help you out with some very "unbiased" information ...
In the meantime -- he is has a fliesandfins.com partner blog that we setup for him and that he maintains .. It's all about Argentina Fly Fishing .. here is a great piece that Alex crafted specifically for the Rio Grande .. This should help you out some - until Alex comes over and gives you some first hand insight .. (that might be a while though depending on how much beef they are roasting tonight and how much wine is flowing and how many cigars are being lit:)) Here is that blog post:

PS - If you do go - let us know how it turns out - and bring a camera - hope you are lucky enough to "lock horns" (as Alex says) with one of those monster sea run browns![/b] |

Wow that is a great fish...I really appreciate the help and I am happy to know Alex is likely to find this blog he has helped me out in the past and I was actually in the process of trying to track him down as he is clearly the man down there and is very dialed in. Would also love to get a day of Dorado in with him out of BA if it fits on the front end of the trip.

Thanks allot Alex that is all I need, just want to make sure they have access to good water the rest I could care less about. Even with the big last minute discount still a lot of money and don't want go be slighted on the fishing. Do you still do day trips for Dorado from BA this time of year?

I have fished in the Rio Grande and the Ewan Norte for sea run trouts and I have done it with a local guide camping on the Ewan and sleaping in a hotel that was not the lodge. Acess on the Rio Grande was 200 dollars (in private water plus the guide. The Ewan is a much smaller river but with plenty of fish between 3 and 10 lb. The Rio grandes fish are a lot bigger and make the money definetly worth it. The fishing is not the funnest but the fish is. The guide is known as Tanguito and he is very well known in the area. I cannot give you more info now but maibe you can surch on thr web. Its a lot less money than the lodges but it is olso not as confortable.

Nice work Hawk, was hoping that you got into them after I got your email the other day. Obviously you did! It looks like you also had some good weather down there, including some days that weren't windy which isn't all that common.
