THE FLY FISHING BOOK by fliesandfins.com
http://www.fliesandfins.com/fly-fishing-book.html

Hi everyone,

We are really excited to add another element to the Flies And Fins content portfolio. Through 6 years, we have stayed the course of being true to our focus. Flies And Fins was first developed back in April, 2001 around the concept of "FISH TALES." All other forms of content (video, images, forums, audio, flash etc..) are here and will always be meant to supplement and compliment the core of Flies And Fins "FISH TALES." As we realized 6 years ago .. the concept of Flies and Fins "FISH TALES" was and still is and, in our opinion, will always be TIMELESS. And, the central purpose of fliesadnfins.com will always be about FISH TALES which are pretty simply defined as, Stories of everyones fly fishing trips. The stories (fish tales) through the course of 6 years have proven to be comprised of just about everything ... saltwater, freshwater, small fish, big fish, no fish, funny experiences, lessoned learned, steelhead, tarpon, brook trout, etc.. you name it. There really have been no rules the "Fish Tales" have just kind of defined themselves. And, even though there are many other places with stories of fly fishing or whatever .. there is something special about a FLIES AND FINS FISH TALE that can't really be described. It just is. And, if you look through the many fish tales you will see that they are comprised of all sorts of fish, topics, humor, learning, locations in usa, locations overseas .. and most of all .. all sorts of people of all ages of all skill levels from all walks of life. Pretty spectacular really .. and we think what makes any "new" fish tale so great and much more than "any old" fly fishing story .. is the fact that a each new fish tale adds to every fish tale that has come before it. And with every new fish tale the meaning of a Flies and Fins Fishtale grows a little more. So, we look forward to many lifetimes and generations of flies and fins "Fish Tales" and it will be something when the children of members now start to post fish tales. I personally thought about this the other day, when I saw my 4 year old son coloring and writing at his little desk. I couldn't believe that fliesandfins.com is older than him by 2 years! And won't it be something when he writes his very own and very first "FISH TALE." ..

Anyway. We did feel that there was 1 element of content that was missing .. and that was .. something of a "Read Only" nature. Ironically, the entirety of fliesandfins.com is and has always been interactive and community driven. Comments, posts and sharing between us 4,437 members is what we have always done and THAT is what ultimately makes fliesandfins.com special .. because fliesandfins.com is NOT about any 1 person or any one thing .. ultimately, its about PEOPLE. And, its the PEOPLE who give meaning and value. Without the PEOPLE, it would just be another website.

So, how could we include some sort of "Read Only" .. how-to type content in typical fliesandfins.com style and make it about THE PEOPLE? Hmm .. we thought about it and thought about it and really couldn't come up with anything. Then, it hit us! How about the Flies and Fins "Fly Fishing Book?" .. Hold on .. hold on .. I know what you are thinking, "Oh boy, here we go again .. another book about experts telling me how to do this or that .. BORING!" ... Not at all! Why? Well amongst the 4,437 current member base there are no "experts" per se .. just regular guys who undeniably have a finnatical passion for fly fishing .. and that, I think, is proven through the 6 years of "Fish Tales", videos etc. So, you would have to agree, that amongst all of these people and all of this fly fishing. Some guys must fish certain way, certain species, tie certain types of flies, live in specific places etc.. and to some degree be more qualified than let's say, me, to give advise on a specific topic. Of course, this is true .. because when I look out over my crew of fly fishing buddies, it is univerally agreed that Kory is "the man" when it comes to spey, Ed is "the man" when it comes to stripers, and so on and so forth. And, we all look to each person and their specific knowledge on any one given topic to get advise or tips or whatever on that one given topic. So, the idea of a COLLABORATIVE internet based "Fly Fishing Book" was born. It was perfect and exactly inline with fliesandfins.com FISH TALES, and overall social media and sharing philosophies that have been the driving force behind fliesandfins.com since its inception. Flies And Fins IS social, it is all about sharing and it is all about the amazing amounts of broad vast information that we have all shared over the course of 6 years through FISH TALES, forums, chats, etc..

So .. in typical fliesandfins.com fashion the "FLY FISHING BOOK" will never be "finished" .. it will be an ongoing work in process. With "Chapters" being added every so often and even certain chapters being developed further. The best part of it all .. is that no 2 chapters will ever share the same author .. So, ultimately the "Fly Fishing Book" will be exactly inline with the "Fish Tales" and fliesadnfins.com itself .. and be another supplemental resource and form of media where it is only as valuable as the total sum of its parts!

Anyway - We kind of ran out of Creative Steam after using it all of the concept and who would do the first 2 chapters etc... So, we simply are calling it .. THE FLY FISHING BOOK .. simple enough anyway.

The first chapter (SPEY) is brought to us by Kory Kapaloski and the second chapter (STRIPERS) is brought to us by Ed Simpson!

Enjoy .. and stay tuned, through the years, for more chapters, more people and some great down to earth content!
