Hey All,
Anyone work in or have any contacts in book publishing?
My Dad and I have 2 illustrated children's books on the subject of flyfishing and fly tying that we are trying desperately to get published.
The back story is that my family is a big fishing family up on the Beaverkill in NY. My Dad is a retired commercial artist who has drawings up in the Catskill Fly Fishing Museum up in Roscoe/ Livingston Manor NY. I am a children's musician in NYC. I've been working writing songs for a major label children's music act for the last 7 years. One of the books has a CD single that goes with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. We've tried a number of different routes which have yet to pan out. We're just trying to spread the word. Thanks in advance!! |

| A quality Query letter is key...times are tough and you really have to work to "sell" your product. |

Thanks waterwhippa.
Yeah, I guess I haven't gone that route yet... I was hoping not to have to but you're absolutely right about "the times". I had an agent who had some connections in outdoor publishing but she turned out to be a total dud and, frankly I don't trust her with my book. I do have a ton of galley's ( mock copies ) if anyone is interested in seeing them. They're really fantastic and I say this not only as a recent father but as a hardcore fisherman. My Dad has one about fly tying with incredible illustrations... It's a seriously great introduction to tying with illustrations clear enough and language easy enough for a young kid. I don't know... If anyone wants to see one I'd be happy to send them out just to get the word out there a little...It might help if I could get a few commitments even from local shops for a few here and there... Thanks again! |

| A good fishing buddy of mine is a professional technical writer. He is also a published outdoor writer. If you are interested i can have him take a look at one of your books. I must remind you, he can be very harsh. Having an outsider look at something you spent some much of your time on, can be a very difficult thing. if you are interested PM me and i will forward contact information for him. |

Fisherone,
I have a series of published children's fly-fishing books and may be able to help you or at least give you some potentially valuable information. If you send me an email we can strike up a conversation and see where it goes. |
