Hey all,
When I was in R.I. last weekend for the striper bonanza with Jeremy, Whippa, Headrush, and others, we were talking about, what else, fish, and fly fishing. Anyway, it got me thinking about all the different species that we stalk with a fly rod, and I was curious to see what different folks would lke to cast for. For instance, Whippa and I get to fish for Great Lakes Steelhead all the time, and, in a sense, we kinda take it for granted. Fishing for stripers opened my eyes to that because it really affected me (or infected me ). So there it is. What are your Top Five species that you would like to fish to in you lifetime? Location can, of course, be taken into consideration. Here's my initial list in no particular order
1. Tarpon (even more so after watching that video by joe-m)
2. B.C. Steelhead
3. Bonefish
4. Altantic Salmon
5. False Albacore

| Jeremy I have to be honest and say I have caught a few nice Brookies before. They just always end right back up at the top of the list to catch though. But I have yet to catch one in Maine. The rest I'd like to catch and haven't as of yet. Caught a cuttbow on the Yellowstone though. So it's halfway to the cutthroat. The wife was the lucky one on that trip and landed a nice 16" cutthroat. Looking forward to the fishing when I'm up there. |

Also, what is a milkfish?
Looking back I may have to add taimen on to my list. Hard to pick just 5. |

milkfish are a plankton eating fish that they just recently figured out how to catch in the seychelles in the indian ocean. Cross a bonefish and a big tarpon....well you can imagine! |

Ok, I know this thread is old but I just had to get it straight in my head. I recently saw a book "50 places to Fish Before You Die". So here are my top 10 to hit before I die. Five Freswater and Five Salt:
Freshwater
1.) Atlantic Salmon - Eastern Canada
2.) Stealhead - British Columbia
3.) Sea-Run Browns - South America
4.) Brown Trout - New Zealand
5.) King Salmon - Alaska
Saltwater
1.) Tarpon - Carribean
2.) Permit - Carribean - Got to do the Grand Slam
3.) Bonefish - Carribean
4.) False Albacore - Northeast
5.) Cobia - Gulf Coast
I know it's a tall order. |
