I am new and looking for some help. Thank you for your time in advance. I have been reading as much as possible and I think I have found a set up that may work. Money is an issue so I am trying to go cheap but still quality gear. I will mostly be fishing in the surf and bays around San Diego with a trip to the kelp patties here and there. I will also be in Antigua at the begining of July for my honeymoon(hence the trying to keep it cheap for now).
For the rod I am looking at picking up a TFO TiCr X 10w. Not sure on the wieght or the rod. From what I have read for the price and quality they seem to be the way to go. Any other suggestion would be great.
For the reel I am looking at an Orvis Battenkill LA V 10w. From reading reviews they seem decent and the price is right. The reel will be upgraded later(if needed) to an Abel Super 10. I like the Abels for 3 reasons.
1. The are made in the good ole U S of A
2. The are made not far from San Diego
3. You can order pretty colors( as my fiancée said). "Pretty colors makes it easier for me to buy .
Does this set up sound like it will work for what I need to do?
On another note, has anyone fly fished in Antigua. Can't find much info on it except for one guide. Trying to find some DIY info. I already have one fishing charter booked for some deep sea but would also like to do some fly fishing from the shore while I am there.
BTW, excellent website. First post but been reading for a while.
I would check out the Beulah Surf Rod. Try their online site. Also the Ross
Reels are on sale at Cabellas. Us made as well. Watch Orvis Reels, as some have been made overseas.
Tight lines,
Mike
PS I took my wife fishing on our Honeymoon as well.
